Flash intensity
Hello to the community

I would like to know how to reduce the intensity of the flashes (when you hit with the hammer for example) in ship graveyard 2, because after 30 minutes of play my eyes hurt

Thanks for your answers

Yes. Me too.

Back when the demo was first published, the flashes were universally too bright. So bright that, at night, I started instinctively turning my head when I hit something. Because otherwise I kept dazzling myself and could play only for a few minutes before I had to stop.

At some point the devs realised what was wrong and fixed the problem.

And sometime in the last few months they unfixed it. Hitting something, especially at night, makes a far-too-bright flash again. Some sort of bug regression.

it's true that these flashes are unpleasant...hoping that there will be a solution to this little problem, I had thought that we could modify the flash via a .ini file in the game directory, but alas I can't find anything...
See you soon my friend

there is no way to fix that, just suggest this to the devs, maybe they can add an option for it.

Yeah, my eyes dry up, turn red and start hurting after 20 minutes. I tried using the flashlight to kinda mask the flashes but it makes everything too bright.

I'll try playing with higher gamma values (3+) when my eyes get some rest. But for now gamma setting looks like a joke. Bright objects are too bright, dark objects are too dark. And there's no contrast and brightness settings.

the only thing I could think of is playing on permanent day which is what I do

I do the same

So do I. also, make sure that you play in a well-lit room - flashes in a dark room (your room, not the one in game) are a lot worse.

So, I tried playing with gamma set to 3.5, permanent day. It takes some getting used to it because everything looks a bit washed out for the first time and kinda seems like you lose some texture quality, but after 10 minutes it's okay and it's WAY easier on the eyes, and the flashes blend in better.

Maybe way late to the party but I found it! You actually CAN turn off the flash.
It's in the graphic settings, named VFX. apparently setting it no higher than Medium, disables the flash effect. (not sure which other effects are disabled, but I can live with that)

Do you mean "Effects"? It does nothing for me, the flash is still too bright.
Also I noticed that it seems like there should be some more settings in Graphics menu, because when I reach the bottom the scroll bar doesn't reach the bottom.

No, I do not mean Effects - I mean VFX, which is one line below Effects, and essentially turns off flashes (for example the gas pipes no longer have flames when rupturing)

And mine doesn't go all the way down neither, but the last setting is Motion Blur.

Are you using the unstable patch version?
Because I don't have VFX option in Graphics.

Actually, I do! Apologies - haven't thought that it might not be in standard version. Well, another incentive to use unstable patch.

Oh, I see. I haven't got my hand on it yet.
Well, I hope they make it stable soon, having announced that dlc and all, and I'll give it a try then. But I'll keep in mind that graphics option. Thanks!
