Incomplete tutorial
Seems that upgrading tools is an important part of this game, but yet the tutorial does not cover anything to do with that. There seem to be 2 different locations that have to do with tools but nothing is explained.

Im still pretty new at this game and yesterday I spent over $600 on what I thought were tool upgrades but yet when I got back to my ship I was demolishing, the tools were still sllow. Now I am broke (I have around $20) and my tools are as slow (or slower) than in the tutorial. I really dont want to start over again from scratch. Can someone please at least explain to me what I did wrong?...and what I can do to fix it? Thanks.

To buy an upgrade you need to go to two places.

The first place is along the long row of shops, next to the one with a dollar sign. In this shop you pay money to order your upgrade. Delivery is apparently very fast, because you can then immediately go to the next place.

The second one is to the left of the recycling depot. You have to take resources (non-metals, liquids, etc.) here and exchange them for the upgrade you paid for. For some upgrades you require a lot of resources. Keep an eye on the line along the top of your screen.

Note that if you use a resources to fulfil a contract, that resource is no longer available for picking up an upgrade. For instance, your upgrade may require an amount of liquid. You may require a certain amount of oil for a contract. But oil is a liquid ! So you have a choice between getting the upgrade or getting the money for the contract. Though often you have enough oil to do both.

This. Indeed, the tutorial should point out that this game uses this rather...well..."interesting" upgrade system where you buy the upgrade recipes in one shop buy you go to actually get the upgrades applied in a different shop, and worst of all, these shops are not next to each other. So your frustration is well warranted (welcome to the club!).
the major one missing fro the tutorial was craning out the remaining hull

IMO it is ridiculous that this dev made it more complicated than it really had to be, Upgrading tools should be all in just one vendor location. It sure doesnt help that the tutorial makes no mention of anything to do with upgrading tools.

The idea of this game is brilliant and it is fun and interesting to play, but a little more attention could have went into covering some things better in the tutorial. I hope the dev improves on the tutorial, for the sake of future gamers that want to play this game.

It might help a bit to imagine that the first store is you ordering blueprints to upgrade the tools, and the second shop is actually forging the tools (heck, I think the second shop is actually referred to as the forge in the small tutorial pop-up that shows up when you get close to it.) It's like a lot of other games where you unlock a recipe or item, then actually have to make the item.
