I'm also having a hard time with non-Ikazuchi characters. Something I should have worked on when I got the game on JP and international releases lol.

I did the same thing Friday. I got game over before I even got to the first boss. I just finished my first normal run without using continues tho so it is possible. lol. Keep at it!

Most people don't realize they can strafe in this game. Just double tap the attack button a few times.

After some time with the game it's not really so bad. I'm finishing the game with 12 extra lives at the moment in Story mode. Others are finishing with a couple more I,m sure. The only thing brutal that comes into play is if you are going for high score. You can't get hit to recieve the bonuses you need from extra item pickups.

Also, the original SNES game is in general harder with its faster paced gameplay.
