According to the Readme file, Alt+M will mute/unmute sounds. The config file is located here: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\2DBoy\WorldOfGoo which also has a sound level that you may want to adjust. The mute/unmute feature treats music and sound effects the same, heads up.

Yeah, it'd be really nice to have some sort of volume control. While the sound design and music are nice in the game, they are so loud to the point where I just don't want to play cause I can't have Youtube or Netflix running on my second monitor.

Just go in that config file and edit the music...wait I think that controls all sounds volume

Just lower the volume of the game specifically

To mute all the music and leave the rest untouched, it seems you can go under
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\World of Goo\game\res
and change the name of the "music" folder in there to something else.

This will only work for fully muting the music and not for quieting it, and appears to leave music in cutscenes untouched. To get the music back after doing this, simply rename the folder back to music, and it'll work again.
