OCD
Dear devs. If you make a game where it is possible to get an achievement for doing the level well, *MAKE IT EASY TO RESTART YOUR LEVEL AFTER YOU REALISE YOU HAVEN'T DONE IT PERFECTLY*. By which I mean it is not easy to count your goo, and once they start going in the pipe (when it's easy to count them) restarting is disabled.

Why????

Seriously infuriating, to the point I'm unlikely to continue past level 3 in your game.

Big necro but if you read a sign you can then press the 'escape' key and retry immediately.

It would be good if it told you how much goo was left or whatever.

You think that is bad, half the time the screen freezes and the touchpad does not move fully so even completing the movements needed for OCD is broken, e.g. selecting a specific goo ball, toss a goo ball with momentum, quickly move a goo ball in one go across part of the screen without multiple swipes.

Even the Chapter 1 flying level needs multiple scrolling swipes which are not read correctly with the mouse & touchpad (even with sensitivity on the computer dialed up), just to get the view from one level of the balloons to the bottom structure. OCD is buying another boxy computer with a specialised game controller & mouse, with a CPU that does not run hot just from the game; not playing it on most devices users own. It is not a challenge that can be achieved if the user has to trade the enitre hardware set in. It is just making me remember why having games with better mouse sensitivity and UI controls are more enjoyable to play. It is more temperamental than a seriously ill person off their mental health meds.

Perhaps these OCD achievements were not actually designed with any of the players in mind, hence the lack of integration with the UI to help, (where even a label, a counter or timer would be an easy addition) and literally are purely for aggravation. You could hope luck and hours of repeated tries for that one time the stars, the mouse & random motion align help or you could switch to literally anything else and have a more enjoyable time.

OCD is not something for over 98% of players. Which should tell even the devs who set the challenges something. After all even the rates of OCD in the populace mean they with annoy more people than reward those simply for luck when performing the same steps & structural design. Which is problematic to say the least.

I love the word "Problematic" here...

Anyway OCDs are probably made for people who actually have OCDs...

To be honest the game is still good even if you don't 100%-ed it...

Well certainly for someone with OCD there is the bitter taste of blood in the mouth while playing, something that would not endorse further time spent with the game or indeed any of the following titles based on health reasons alone. For those without OCD they likely would be able to play the game and completely ignore achievements since they are not for 99% of players. If the op of the thread is one of those people who can ignore all achievements then they will be fine... although since they all caps UI design issues that would indicate less design for OCD in game I would hazard a guess they would be more put out. Perhaps those encouraging not to bother do suggest a healthier outlook rather than continuing and ruining overall gameplay experience.

You're right, on top of all WoG has a gamedesign from 2009, we cannot really judge a game that was made just before the indie boom from the late 2000's

I agree with you. To be fair no, game support is usually under a year after a game is released onto a sales platform (which can differ though to the first release date on an earlier distribution but is still short). OP is posting a letter in a bottle to the wider world. Answers can only serve to either commiserate & help or berate them. In the interests of the community, identifying there is an issue for others would be a first step but also to help let others know to not worry with the achievements is the second. Even then there may also be more system specific fixes that can be applied if it is a UI or game engine issue. So a forum for that would also still be useful for later players. Which is the key point. Publishing if there were fixes players aiming for OCD had found to the bugs evident in the game, knowing those bugs will never be fixed by devs. Like Bethesda games where bug tracking and work-arounds is most of the game community documentation right there. Some of those flaws are funny, others game breaking, and more still infuriating.
