Does Half-Life 2 include episode one and two?

I remember buying episode 1 and then 2, and waited years for episode 3. Is this Half Life 2 actually the full game including all the episodes? And if so how many episodes did they make? Confused!

The releases went like this:

Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2: Episode 1
Half-Life 2: Episode 2

The episodes were basically expansions and they never released a third one unfortunately, just left the game on a cliffhanger. I can see why the naming system is confusing though since 'Episode 1' is the second part of the Half-Life 2 story.

The episodes aren't included by default in Half-Life 2 and have to be bought seperately

I would say so. The episodes expand on the main story and there's some pretty major things that happen. If Half-Life 3 ever shows up, it will be worth having those events in your brain to prevent any confusion with the story :p

Which was the best of the triliogy so far, HL2, HL2 Ep 1 or HL2 Ep 2?

My memory is that Ep 1 was the best in terms of story, new locations etc...

I haven't played them in so long but I do remember that Episode 1 bored me despite loving the base game and Episode 2, though I could not tell you why.

Yes I think I got it the wrong way round. I loved HL2 and Episode 2 which was why it was so disappointing they didn't continue the story.

Yes I would recommend anyone buying Ep1 and 2 for HL 2. It both expands and enhances the game play and allows you to play other mods that use those tectures unless Steam automatically has a work around.

Be aware that on a normal day, the episodes are almost as expensive as the main game, but are only a fraction as long. Also Alyx in Ep1 has a bad habit of "holding your hand" almost the entire way.

But I would still recommend it for the story at least and anyone who does not have it or even the main HL2 game, the Summer Sale on Steam lasts until tomorrow I believe and you can get each one for only $2 or less.
