Game saves and multiple users
My son and I have recently started playing Half Life 2, and have noticed a problem with save games.

All saves are being written to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\save.

We are signed in on different profiles, but seem to share the save save location. I wasn't aware of this last night and overwrote some of his save games.

Is there any way to save games per profile? It seems a bit strange that having bought the game twice we can't save our game progress individually.

I'm facing this problem too, I have two users in my pc, but the game still installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\, sharing the same save...

It all used to work properly with the original file locations using "username" subfolders in steamapps. The change to a "common" folder messed things up, and Valve didn't even bother to get their own games sorted out. :steamfacepalm:

If you use two different Steam accounts, both have Steam Cloud enabled, and always play in online mode, it "should" manage the save files for each user.
If Steam Cloud detects a difference between local and cloud saves, you should select the "download" option to retrieve the saves for your own account.

Note, however, that the game will NOT track achievements properly for multiple users unless you separately backup and restore your own copy of a particular file each time you play:
