As for the interaction in HL2, you can pick up pretty much every little thing you see on the ground and other things.
The pacing of the entire game is also nearly perfect. When you get new weapons and see new enemies are all right on.
The gravity gun is also one of the coolest weapons in any game...PERIOD and the physics are still top notch. There is also more interactivity in this game than most new ones. I love being able to pick up a pc tower and fling it into a wall if I want to.
The biggest reason I still play this game is that it doesn't treat me like I'm an idiot who can't find my way through basic puzzles and levels.
Most new gamers, console gamers in particular, will ever get why this game is great and a classic mainly because it wasn't dumbed down for consoles. It was pc first as Valve will always do.
The gravity gun is great when you run out of ammo, or if you want to just throw things.
