white water fix

this is ancient but I'm leaving the original thread in case someone else encounters the anomaly, original post:

I've been playing Half-Life 2 on computer for as long as I can remember without this " White water ". The top of the water is pure white, but not under it. The samething happens in Half-Life 2: Episode 1, Episode 2, and Garry's Mod. It didn't start doing this until a week ago. I thought it might fix itself. It'd be awesome if someone knew how to fix this.

I seem to be having the same problem, I don't know how to fix it.
It's only on some levels.
The Water Hazard level's water is fine, Not Highway 17 or Sand Traps, That water is completely white, and Under it is the Placeholder Texture (If you want to know what it looks like it looks like the default spray)

i know how to fix it now, you jut type in "+mat_dxlevel 95" (without quotes) into the launch options and the bug is fixed
