Which do you think is better? HL1 or HL2?

I personally think HL1 is better... while HL2 is decent I hate how the first half of the game (chapters 1-6) seem like a tech demo to me just showcasing the Source engine. I hope the first half of HL3 isn't just there to showcase the Source 2 engine... I also feel that HL1 is a lot more fluid and "real" in terms of progression.

um black mesa isn't that much better looking then half life 2 I've compared them side by side and yes there are differences but it isn't about the graphics. My opinion I love both games and like neither one more then the other. Both of them get 10/10 for me.

i got that same feeling to about hl1 and hl2 i gave me a sweater feeling if i returned to hl1

Definitely HL2. HL1 was nothing special. I could never understand the hype around 1st game. I finished it and that was it.
To me HL2 is better in every regard (not to mention I finished that game 4 times, compared to 1 [forced a bit because of boredom] with HL1).

I liked hl1 story more than hl2, hl2 had stacking which was fun, but the driving/boat segments were something that really put me off. Also Ravenholm reminded me a some sort of mod from hl1, can't remember the name.

Overall, hl1 had better pacing/more intresting environments, that's why I think it's better.

I personally love both games. While the weapons in the first game were better in my opinion, I enjoy the plot and general play style of Half Life 2. Personally, Half Life 2 episode 2 is my absolute favourite though.

Hl 1 is a classic. Hl2 is HL1, but on new technologies. i like it serie of games

I love both, but HL2 only has ONE Barney, whereas HL1 has about FIFTEEN THOUSAND

HL1 for multiplayer (crossfire omg) and HL2 for single player fun!

Half-life 1 for its amazing story, frightening moments, amazing design and modeling, along with the variation

Half-life 2 was also pretty good, but not as amazing.

There are modders who are doing them, but they apparently work with Black-Mesa-speed. Mod for Blue Shift is called "Insecurity", and one for Opposing Force is confusingly named Operation:Black Mesa. Great difference between those guys and BM folks is the first seem to be actually working when we write, and they are doing it good IMO.
