Half-Life 2 Walk/Sprint Seeds
In my version of HL2 the Walk [Shift], Sprint [Alt] keys, holding them does nothing. There is NO apparent change in speed.

In HL1 and Black Mesa there is a sv_maxspeed command, but that is not in HL2.

Anyone know a way to set a more realistic walk/run speeds.

I cannot sprint until you get the HEV suit.

I dont think changing the default speed/maxspeed is the way to go.
Did you check your controls / config, wheather the keys are assigned the right way.
Maybe the config is also messed up from some mod.
Deleting it and letting hl create a new one might be the thing.

Guys, your 3 replies above are no help. Walk/Spring do NOTHING on my system with defaults set. My speed remains the same regardless of which I use in HL2.

do u have the hev suit? if so then idk but something that does make u go faster is jumping, u don't go very hi but u go pretty far in distance

might be helpfull to know wheather you are using any mods..
because on default there IS a change of speed while sprinting.

Also: which level are you at in the game?

No MODs. I have a Steam installs of Half-Life 2 & Black Mesa on my WinXP desktop and Half-Life 1 on my Ubuntu (Linux) laptop. ALL show no change that I can detect using Walk/Sprint.

sv_alternateticks 0

it should work
tecknode Aug 19, 2013 @ 12:45pm
Half-Life 2:
  • sv_alternateticks 0 is default, therefore no change
  • sv_alternateticks 1 sets Walk speed default, no change for Run
Half-Life 1 or Black Mesa: sv_alternateticks has no effect on Walk/Run speeds

It may set things to default, but whatever the case my game (and lots of others reported the same issue) was bugged and I had to enter 0 as the value in order to get walk and run speeds back to normal. Worked for me.

As for it having no effect in HL1 or Black Mesa...good thing this is not the forum for those. :)
