You can't walk away from a conversation, I call bulls**t! The conversations are as boring and scripted as cutscenes, and explosive barrels have been in FPS games since Doom.
There's a difference between antagonists and creatures trying to survive, the combine is your only real enemy.
Thank you stating the obvious.
So then it's not good because it doesn't stand the test of time? Because that's what you just implied.
And don't call me a troll, I found the game enjoyable, just not the "best." By any means. (Perfect Dark ftw =D) But to each his own.
Pretty sure that the Gman proves those first 3 are wrong, because the Gman sure as hell tries to ram plot down your throat, and it's annoying.
Half Life is one of the major reasons that Valve even has such an intense fan base. It's a big disingenuous to chalk up its popularity to "Valve fanboys". One of the main things that makes the game so compelling is its approach to storytelling. Rather than laying the story out flatly, there's an enormous amount of depth that can only be gleaned by exploring and piecing together clues from your environment.
I'm sure that many of the people posting here are too young to be able to put this game into the context of when it came out, but it really did set new standards for immersive storytelling.
Don't be the "If I tell everyone how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ I thought Citizen Cane was, they'll think I'm smarter than the most respected scholars and critics!" guy. I just makes you look like a dingus.
1. You care for the characters, allies, and even the zombies. What other games out there make you care for zombies?
2. The game, unlike other FPS, put time into character development. Don't give me crap like, GORDON HAS NO DEVELOPMENT HURHURHUR, he does. Gordon Freeman is meant to be you.
3. What other First-Person Shooters, yes I know there are some out there, have the main character meant to be you? You're Gordan Freeman. You make his character.
4. The gameplay and story is amazing, and unlike modern first-person shooters, they aren't spending most of the money on graphics. The graphics are the only thing that makes HL2 look like an average shooter.
I will be adding onto this.
