HL2 anniversary update — mac port?
When will Valve take care of having their main catalog available to Mac users?
Some of their games already had that treatment. This time of anniversary would seem like a great time.

+ nevermind the homebrew workaround, that's still only an alternative and a static build. It doesn't let you play episode 1 or 2 and not taking into account the recent updates of the game.

In an alternate timeline where Apple supports game developers and gives them the tools to make games easier on their OS, sure. But you don't live in one. Valve seems to have been silently dropping mac support for their games in general.

What a Pity. Mac with Arm are now good gaming machines. I worked with a M3Pro and was an incredibile beast. Now i own a "simple" M1 but is way better than some Intel with integrated graphics. Anyway that's how the gaming industry works...let's wait maybe

it would have been a good time to do an official apple silicon port.. very sad, that didn't happen... just pushing thread up. maybe some devs has still the ambition to do it... :-)

Apple always had a weird relationship with video gaming. Today they have a music platform, a VR device, a video content platform, they produce tv series (Foundation), ... but video gaming? nope.

No offense, but if you want play video games on a computer, get a proper PC instead of McPuter.

yeah i totally get that, with the lack of investment and weak attempts at advertising gaming as a POSSIBILITY with their machines. However, the recent Resident Evil and Death Stranding ports run great on Apple Silicon, so I wonder if the tech effort to port a game like Half Life 2 is that big of a counter-weight.

blame linux, valve would rather support that useless hacker OS than adding proper maCHAD support

Try installing Windows Steam using Wine, or if you have an M1 or maybe M2 mac you can use Asahi Linux, since I'm pretty sure even Arm Linux gaming is in better state than Mac gaming.

Average sheep.
Also quite sure it's Apple who's to blame for making an OS that's bad at gaming.

It's a shame, I still use a macbook pro from 2012 so I can play all the 32 bit titles, including the older version of HL2, but episode 1 & 2 don't show up in my library anymore. So how do I play those? :steamsad:

The standalone versions are now considered compatibility tools rather than standalone games, so they've been moved from the library proper to tools. They should be there if you do a search for Half-Life, with the hyphen.

Until they update it for 64-bit, it won't be natively supported.
