No more native gamepad support?

Apparently 20th Anniversary Update removed native gamepad support. Why, i wonder...

Still has a Gamepad tab in the game options.

I'm also having gamepad issues. Even with the the new Steam Input profile, the game seems to just treat controllers like it's stuck in desktop mode. When trying to reorder controllers (steamdeck), it just displays exclaimation marks instead of 1/2,etc

Not quite true.
I don't have steam input enabled and i can use my xbox one controller.

Strangely i can't

I tried a lot of different things and finally got it working. I ended up switching to a completely different layout, then deleting that layout and going back to the official one and it just seemed to start working.

Hopefully, that was the solution because otherwise I have no idea what else I did!

Steam input works, but native controller support doesn't in my case
