Half-Life 2

Half-Life 2

View Stats:
HL2 RTX seems to have a terrible performance
At 1440p and DLSS Performance, it's running at 55 FPS with a freaking 5090! Bruh... That's sad.

Goodbye, close the door and the RTX version will be very good for everyone no matter how much you try to confuse.
It's literally just a giant NVIDIA advertisement, nothing worthwhile aside from the new assets. New RT lighting looks very off-putting and not remotely worth the performance cost, a proper Source 2 port would've been far more satisfactory than this mess.

Or the fact that nobody would want to spend 82 gigs of their storage space on a graphical overhaul!

Edit: not to mention if people wanted to graphically overhaul HL2, there's mods on the workshop that do just that and are better optimized than an official port, including someone porting the graphical assets of HL:A into HL2 and those assets were supposedly done in Source 2!

LOL. Only console users care about storage space.

Interesting. More enemies showing up and dropping FPS is related to CPU, but your CPU ain't so bad. I'm guessing it really takes a toll on the GPU given the RT.

Edit: I just saw a video explaining that there is RT for skin, so this would explain why more enemies equals to less FPS. You can toggle that off in the advanced options from the mod.

I didn't realize there was a HL2 RTX game ready driver I installed it today and its definitely running better even when I use the Ultra preset, as long as I use DLSS Performance mode, it's kind of impressive how much better Performance mode looks with DLSS 4 transformer model vs DLSS 3.
I'm not an usual supporter of conspiracy theories, but honestly, the HL2 RTX feels like an obscured Nvidia RTX Tech Demo for selling their newest overpriced fancy 50 series cards.

I have no choice but to apologize to the author of this post because they were right.
Forgive me, I was wrong.
I couldn't imagine this optimization and quality disaster.
Will it only be possible to play the game on a 5090? Can I play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 in ultra quality without any problems, and it doesn't even run at 30 fps?
Sorry, but I'll play it when I buy the next-gen PC around 2027 or 2028.
This version isn't worth it unless you have the most powerful PC available today.
Too bad, since I'm not going to buy a 5090 even if I'm drunk.

i have a 3090 and was going to upgrade to a 5000 series but not now. Maybe the 6000 series will have better gains

Yes, I agree, it's better to wait since we have no problems playing everything today and surely until the new generation comes out, it won't change until 2028.

Apology accepted. I have a 4090. If you find one with a good price by a miracle, that might be an option.

Graphics cards ALWAYS go down in price as time goes on... but that's also a problem because let's say there's a very specific card your having your eyes on but it's just outside of your budget range, a few years later it might be within that budget range but will the technology for everything that's been on the rise leave you in the dust still because technology won't wait for you to catch up to it, it's going to be going down that track like a freight train and nothing will be derailing it unless it's something extremely drastic.

Not at all, it's not like that. If you know how to buy, what you're talking about will never happen to you. A good PC will last you about 10 years playing everything without problems, and in 10 years, you can't save up for a good PC?
I bought mine in mid-2018 and it was top-of-the-range. I spent around 3,000 euros with everything: PC, peripherals, and a 40-inch screen. I can still play everything in ultra quality at 60 fps without problems, and I don't plan on changing it until the next generation comes out around 2027 or 2028.
That's 10 years of uninterrupted use playing everything.
Long live the PC.
