FPS Cap
Ok, I have a strange question:

Does anyone know how I could cap the FPS of Half-Life 2 to 30 FPS? I game on a laptop and I want to get the most out of my battery. I started using the laptop power savings option on Portal 2 a while ago and it practicaly doubles the time I can spend playing on a single charge, which is great for long bus rides. Is there a way I could lower the frame rate in Hl2 (or other Source games) to achieve the same effect? And if so, how?

It won't let me change the FPS. It says "You can't change the fps while playing. disconnect from the server or switch team to spectator." I tried to change it through the config files, but it would always get overwritten.

Ok i figured it out. In the console, type in disconnect, then type in sv_cheats 1, then use the fps command

Actually, I just solved my own problem. I used a custom autoexec to set the FPS cap automatically when the game boots up. Thanks for your help, though

Funny; I don't need sv_cheats 1 or a custom autoexec. Just open up the dev console, type disconnect and then fps_max 31 (a max of 31 fps will usually give you 30 consistantly.)
@phillippi2 THANK YOU very much! :)

The game doesn't save the setting when you quit playing, so to make it permanent either put the command in this (text) file:
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\cfg\autoexec.cfg

OR set it as a launch option:
+fps_max 31

there isn't an autoexec in the files for hl2 only for half life 1
