Go to this folder: Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ Half-Life 2 \ hl2
And open the file: hl2_sound_misc_dir.vpk
Now you should see a new window open. Select the "Sound" folder, right click and "Extract" it to your desktop.
Now, go to this folder again: Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ Half-Life 2 \ hl2
And create a new folder there, call it "custom", create another folder inside this one and call it something like "sound_mod".
Go to your desktop, take the "Sound" folder you extracted earlier and move it to the "sound_mod" folder you just created.
Replace any of the files inside this folder, when you're done, just open the game to test your new sounds.
record or find a sound
change the name to the file you want to replace
put it in and replace the file
