why is the fakefactory cinematic mod so hated by nearly everyone?
ive always been a huge fan of half life games, and when i tried that mod i thought it was actually amazing. it makes the game really nice looking and its only giving you a reason to play the game even once again, with different weapon skins etc

so why does everyone say "it takes away the atmosphere from the game" O.o

The necromancer is strong in you. However, the weird things of the mod are optional; the mod author originally did the mod for himself, we should be grateful he shared it with us and gave us the option to disable his little personal "flavour".

As much as the game was ok, it does take some things too far, it shouldn't have re-done the entire maps, it should've just been a graphics overhaul, no model/map editing, though custom models can be disabled. Even then, I don't like the citizens, too much change to default versions.

Don't get me wrong, I've played it, and enjoyed it. But when I truly think about it, it does have its faults. No matter what other people think, not everyone hates it.

But still, I had to get rid of the offensive graffiti with GameBanana. I may not like it as much though, as I first played it, but I don't hate it.
In fact I would rather play a game with no AO, no HDR, no bloom, and low-resolution texture.
BUT with the correct expression of atmosphere from the valve original designer.

Not this. bunch of HDR, bloom, mixed with some kind of SSAO, high resolution texture, more detail and more fog.
BUT it delievers nothing like HL2, it looks like jungle OMG.

No matter how good is the graphic. A game with the wrong atmosphere is like a skillful soldier on the wrong side. the better his skill is, the more he should be put to end.

it doesn't fit the style of half-life 2 sadly. half-life 2 has a eastern europe feel to things, where as the mod has a... well. i don't know. it feels really off. it just isn't city 17.

i think i'm one of those people that have some type of OCD, but in my opinion the half life 2 cinematic mod is a mod for people that hate having stuff like the old sound effects, the lack of pixles here and there, the old 2004 look ext, if people are gonna Complain about this mod than don't download it, i think 99% of half life user just download the game just for nostalgia and cheating, while others just download the game to get mods and other valve and facepunch games.

if i'm not mistaken

i think the cinematic mod is great. i playd the original hl2 back in the day so coming back to it after so long seeing the changes was awsome . i think the guy should get more credit for what he did its alot of work and very well done at that. I also thought the alex model looked good. i would think if you havent playd hl2 before its better to play the original game before playing this though

the reason I hate it is because it steals a lot of assets from other mods and skins. Aside from that I've always seen it as a hollywood-esque revision of HL2's aesthetics. Particularly the pistol and SMG model you can find from the original author off gamebanana. I've always thought the ridiculous sexualization of the graffiti and females in the game kind of added to the charm of the whole thing. I can excuse silly design, I can't excuse thievery

Okay, first off I haven't tried the Cinematic Mod yet, but from what I can tell its for people who want to change up the game. Second, its a mod, A mod is there to just change the game, there are many mods that are good and bad, and I feel that the cinematic mod is good, but I'd tweak things to make it like the original half-life 2 game (characters, etc...). Third, if you don't like it then just don't go on to say "Oh they have Adult content everywhere!", like some people do like people have said before it's optional and if you don't like it that much, just delete it and walk away. Fifth, I see this mod as an OS like Linux Arch, Linux arch is for people who like to have the customization and stability of a good Linux os, but some people prefer an os like Ubuntu or Linux Mint because they are stable but they don't have as many features to customize like Arch and are familiar to a wider audience. (what I'm trying to say about the os thing, is that people refer to different Linux os's or versions (like KDE, Knome, XFCE, etc.) as flavors (sometimes), and I see that the cinematic mod is a specific version/flavor that is for certain people, like that person who likes lettuce, but nothing else that's a vegetable, stuff like that.) (P.S. I'm 15, and I find it funny how people are raging about a thing that is free, hey it's free, is there really any loss? Also I wanted to revive this!)
(I also see what people mean, by stealing other's work. I purely despise people who do that, cause it's a form of plagiarism, and that's bad!)
(also i'm gonna try the mod out, just to see why it's good and bad, cause I'd like to see both sides in person!)

Since my computer is (finally) decent today, I wanted to try CM2013 mod.
For the intro : I played HL² from day one (not on steam) and I finished that game so many times I know it by heart. When I play HL² original, I have my habbits and speedrunning it, knowing any hidden spot.

First impression about CM2013 : I was surprised I felt confused when playing it, but it was entertaining due to its little changes. Now I'm thinking twice, I have to adapt and modify my way of playing, that's interesting.

The configurator : allows me to customize the game to my liking. I can pick a different kind of music or not, I can change the model skins or use the original one in HD, same for the NPC.
Most of the visual effects are decent, but not useful. I'm turning off the ENB, blur, DoF, grain and ambiant occlusion which are too many shiny effects useless for the Freeman. More options are always welcome !

All in all, that's a new experience with lots of optional settings. If you want the original feels without anything new, just try the Update. But if you want to experiment something new with all the HL² vibe, just give that CM2013 a try, it's free!
So far so good. Excellent work.
