Half-Life 2
Half Life 2 Sound.cache File
I really want to extract the sound effects from Half Life 2, as I go through the local steam content of my computer, find the half life two folder, find the sound folder inside that. It has one .cache file. called sound.cache. I want to know how to extract all of the sound effects from it or if I even can. I've searched the web for information or just a direct download of all of the sound effects but I can't find anything. Furthermore Left4Dead doesn't use cache files they have big lists of sound effects. If I could get a client, or extraction program that would let me open or expand the cache file, my life would be amazing.

The sound.cache file stores only a (really small) fraction of the sounds.

You need to install CGFScape. Once you have it, go to this folder:

Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ Half-Life 2 \ hl2

And open the file "hl2_sound_misc_dir.vpk" with CGFScape. Choose the sounds you want and extract them.
@A-06: Thank you also, now I have the most awesome HL2 ringtones on my phone, perfect counterculture for the corporate environment!
PS, for anyone wondering how to apply to Android, just copy or extract the files to MyComputer/YourDevice/ringtones/, then pick them under Settings->Sound&Notification->Phone_ringtone.
Thanks man, i love you for that :D

No ♥♥♥♥.
I'm on mac using source finagler, when i open that file with said program it comes up blank. nothing there
