Keyboard instead of mouse - can't get vertical camera turning
I'm a bit interested in the whole deal about self-imposed challenges. A way to breathe new life into an old game. I recently played through HL2 with the strafe keys swapped and the vertical mouse axis inverted. Once that was over, however, I tried to come up with a new challenge and decided that I should try using the keyboard instead of the mouse to look around, shoot and so forth.

This is where the problem comes in - I went into the controls settings and set up the necessary keybinds, but when I started the game I discovered that the buttons I assigned to "look up" and "look down" don't actually do anything. I can turn sideways, but not up and down. Does anyone know if there's a console command, or a mod, or anything I can use to fix this?

(Before anyone suggests using the "mouse keys" tool in the Windows control panel - I want the turning to be at a fixed speed, not something that starts slow and then accelerates.)

Took me a while to figure this out. In Half-Life +lookup and +lookdown do exactly what you'd expect but not in HL2 for some reason.

But I was able to use W and S to control the vertical angle of the camera by first setting cl_mouselook 0 (which can't be done while connected to the game, so maybe you should put this in your autoexec.cfg file before starting the game)

and then once you're in a game just type +klook in the console and the W and S will do what you want, which you can rebind to other keys of course. (and it can be turned off with -klook)

Hopefully this works for you too, good luck with your challenge.

Thanks, I'll try it out at some point in the near future.
