Game constantly crashes

I have tried all the solutions I have found online, like switching to borderless windowed instead of full screen, running as admin. Every time I validate game files, I get "64 files failed to validate", even if I validate right after reacquiring those files.

Steam crashes with it. It's often but not always when a new area loads. I can start steam and load back up and usually make it another 20 or 30 minutes or so, but it's annoying and I have to save constantly.

Experiencing the same, it's wild that a game this old & with this many patches (as late as 2025) is crashing so frequently and easily. Unironically more unstable than a Bethesda game.

Same happening here as of the past week or so. Tried reinstalling and verifying cache but it didn't help. Weird problem innit

Same here, usually it's on episode 1, didn't have any problems with hl2 in general, haven't tried to see how it is with ep2 yet since i just came back for achievement hunting but i give up, ep 1 is crashing every 5-10 minutes and it's annoying

i finished base game and episode 1 with no problems like a month ago, just came back to play episode 2 and its been crashing every 5 minutes, as leigel mentioned it also takes steam with it

I'm experiencing the same, but I thought it was some of those weapon reanimation mods, because once I disabled the one I had, the game went a bit more stable. I hope they fix this.

It's a hard crash to desktop and steam also goes down with it, no logs so I can't even see what's wrong.

The same thing happens in the original game. At the same time, the game crashes along with steam

HL2 works fine for me, but EP1 keeps crashing every 5 minutes. Every time I verify the game files, 64 files fail to validate. The dumbest part is that it crashes steam too.

I have the exact same problem with episode 2, 64 corrupted files... Steam crashes

Same here - all mods disabled. Crashes together with the steam client.

My game keeps crashing and closing the Steam client, and it started after the last Steam update.

some users in other forums reported changing from steam beta to steam fixed their issues
