Theory on Father Grigori
There are many reasons on the chances he escaped and died.

Theres a chance he escaped through the mines due to the fact you see brutal killings down in the mines in Half life 2 episode 2. Also, if you compare it to the killings in ravenholm, they both are the same. Also, remember how ravenhom is directly near the mines? So, he escaped through there and is basically like ratman and lives down there.

However, that does not make up for the fact that he ran into a pit of fire with zombies all around him. Seems unlikely but maybe since he saved Gordon in ravenholm, the gman might off saved him, but that doesn't explain the laughing (if you stay after his supposed death). The origin on him is unknown, but maybe his "priest" side of him saved him with so called magic?

Another possibility of him living is that monument next the place where he died. What if one of them opened a cave of some sort, leading down there. There must of been a specific reason why he chose that spot to hide. Ravenholn was like his home and I'm sure he wouldn't kill himself for a stranger.

Finally, they said "he would not appear." They did not specify if he would be seen face to face. Here's an example: Gordon and Alyx get cornered on the way by combine to the borealis and out of no where, a sniper comes and snipes them, or Gordon gets seperated from Alyx on the way to the borealis and he has to make his way through an unknown town off some sort, or mines, whatever. Then you see more references of brutal killings. Maybe carvings on the wall of ravenholm.

In conclusion, this was a nice little thing they did with Grigori. He's like ratman from portal.

What do you guys think? Post it below

I had watched an entire walkthrough of "Half-Life 2" on YouTube, and that's a pretty interesting theory on Father Grigori surviving the incident in Ravenholm. now if Gabe Newell is smart and play his cards right, he would most likely be added to "Half-Life 3" (should it ever see the light of day)

Normally you PLAY a game and not just watch some stupid walkthrough like you say you did.

How do you get him compared to a literally amd scientist? And why should Ravenholm be under the mines? And how comes you don't know he is a certain russian priest who also never dies? And why do you assume "magic"? Why should someone who may not even be a realy priest be able to use his magicity to summom an astral communicator and let the Astral Enterprise beam him up? And why should the G-Man save him? He has no plans for him and is probably not even an emotional human being!

1. Ravenholm isn't even part of the story. It's a side-quest, of sorts...
2. Father Grigori just likes hanging out there blasting zombies all day...
3. Don't read too much into HL2. It's no Star Wars...

I wouldn't call it a sidequest since you can't not go through it. Everything except secret easter eggs is part of the story.

It's a sidequest, just not optional. But a sidequest, nonetheless. No references to any other characters or the storyline are made by Father Grigori. It's an out-of-place, Halloween-type of map that the devs thought would be cool to add.

Personally, they should have put a beefed-up Lost Coast in place of Ravenholm, but I digress...

Last we saw him, he was killing zombies whilst screaming like a madman.

...which is pretty much the story of Grigori's life.

I've just played the last part of Ravenholm and it's left hanging. He stops laughing like a maniac after a while and stops shooting, but that could mean he found an escape route he planned anyway.
Besides, it's not a sidequest by a long way. You have to play the level to progress.

Father Grigori does not die. He runs into a shed and he shoots a explosive barrel that makes fire so the zombies dont reach him.

I can see the good Father coming back in HL3 actually.

if he does then color me surprised because in all honesty im not sure if valve would be willing to put in the extra effort into the writing

I had picture the screenshot when playing in Ravenholm, I din't see him dying onto the fire of the pit that kills the zombies, I just saw him standing in the safe area in front of me (he is invincible)
