Doomguy is a marine who was stationed on Mars after assaulting his commanding officer when he was ordered to fire upon civilians, I wouldn't say he lacks a backstory.
His backstory must be so important he didn't even got a name in that story? WTF?!
Not much place for a story most of it was on the box and from playing it
Honestly play Doom 3 and you get a decent amount of lore (godamn lighting T_T I actually got scared a few times because i couldn't see ♥♥♥♥)
I tried playing Doom 3 and something felt off about it, made me quit it. And I couldn't help comparing it with Half-Life 2. Lightning on the objects makes them look like they are made of plastic rather than metal or whatever else they're supposed to be made of. The humans and other creatures also give the feeling that they are toys. I repeat, it is mostly because of how light reflects on the objects, but it is also the modelling itself.
I really hate you. I have no idea who you are. I don't know where you live, but by god that is one of the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ RETARDED COMMENTS EVER!!!
ALL OF HIS FRICKING BACKSTORY WAS KNOW BEFORE HALF LIFE 2.
STOP BEING RETARTARDED!
I think he talks about the citizens of City 17, not the players of Half-Life games.
I can see why he thinks that the citizens have no idea who he is, but he simply can't or doesn't have the patience to "read between the lines". The narative of the game doesn't give obvious, in-your-face clues about how Gordon Freeman became such a famous guy with a legendary status and maybe a cult following.
And this is not just about him, most probably all those that escaped Black Mesa are being kept in high regards by the citizens simply because they managed get out of it. Eli is highly respected among the Resistance members, and Alyx too, Barney seems to be accepted as a leader on the streets, and with Kleiner shouldn't be much different
Gordon, however, is probably kept in higher regards because he was in the frontline of the Black Mesa fight and managed to escape the kind of hell that not many others would think they could. And this is what made him such a legend, even though he's not necesarily recognized face2face.
It is important to note that in the beginning of the game the citizens have no idea who he is. Interacting with them, he'll only be told to keep to himself in order to avoid trouble. It is only Barney that recognized him and decided to detour him from taking the train to Nova Prospekt. Later on, the members of the Resistance recognize him simply because Alyx radios them about "Gordon Freeman has returned!" and urges them to give him all the help they can. And even some outposts in the beginning have no idea who he is, probably because they don't have a radio. In the first outpost, hidden in the train wagon, the citizen is actually completely oblivious about who Gordon Freeman is. First he doesn't recognize Gordon, and then when the vort speaks the name, the citizen remains unimpressed, as if this guy (Gordon) would be just another lost lunatic. The more the story plays out though, the more people get familiar with with the fact that he is in the City, messing with the Combine. And it's only natural that their enthusiasm and devotion to his leading figure would simply explode after the events at Nova Prospekt, events that inspired them to spark the revolution.
Think for two minutes, and realize how hypocritical this is.
