Any Way to Downgrade?
You guys remember the huge 2 gig update, right? Well, since that update, my computer can't find the textures and I can't play my game. Is there anyway to just go back to an earlier version?

I'm curious as well. Since I started another replay, Half-Life 2 stutters randomly for 10-30 seconds either right before an event happens or sometimes after quick saving.

Have you tried Verify your Game Cache Files?

Yeah, it did nothing. I decided to try and verify the Source SDK and appareantly theres something wrong with that. Gonna redownload:trainbowbarf:.

Nope, all updates are final.
You're better off buying the retail CD.

Odd suggestion. What good is that going to do?

It'll be version 1.0, no update.

Doesn't work that way, unfortunately. Even if you install directly from the disc, the game will need to connect to Steam to verify before first run, at which point it will automatically download the latest updates. There is no way to opt out or bypass this. I can tell you from experience.

Did you actually buy HL2 at retail on release? because it forces you to install steam and update....

You could acquire an older version of HL2 and install it seperately or copy the files over your actual HL2 install and disable automatic updates.

ive had a similar problem with stuttering .... and this has only started since that massive 2gb update ...... the old saying"if its not broken, dont fix it" comes to mind, and since hl2 is my most played game ( 221hrs) this is getting pretty annoying
in a way im glad to see its not just me .... however why do valve need to mess around with a 8yr old game anyway ...... its not to help with mods as most of them are unworkable now ....
come on guys ....
