Non-Steam download

I've had the game for a few years in my basement but i got the game without using steam and i'm wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to play it on steam?

Step one:download Steam from the internet. Step two:make your Steam account. Step three:Go to the store. Step four: write ''half life 2'' into the search. Step five: buy the game.
And you can ignore step one or two because you already have a steam account.

Unless you pirated the game, you can't "get the game" without using Steam. Half-Life 2 is Steam only (unless on console).

The only way to "play it on Steam" is to buy the game from Steam, download it from Steam, and play it from Steam.

Half-Life 2 is not listed there, but it says all Valve retail games are able to be registered on Steam, just find the CD Key first and then click on the 'Games' tab at the very top of Steam and it should have an option to Add a Non-Steam game.

Installing from the discs should install directly into your steam client. You'll just have to wait for all the updates to install afterward.

OCD isn't far off for installing it from steam itself. Click "Activate a Product on Steam" instead. Enter in your CD code and it should install like any other game. Keep in mind this will only work if you haven't used the code before.
