Draw Distance/Fog Issue
When playing through the Highway 17 and Sandtraps levels, I can clearly see where the water rendering cuts off (the distinct "end of the earth" that most games use trees, buildings, and fog to hide). It's not that noticable if you're down by the shore, but if you're up on the cliffs above, it's painfully obvious. Does anyone else have this same problem?

Also, is there any way I could increase the thickness of the fog to hide it?

Source uses a physical skybox and a predefined draw distance.. In order to give the illusion of bigger spaces while still keeping things in draw distance (listen to the dev commentary towards the beginning of ep. 1) they set the actual size to something quite a bit smaller and then scale it up to normal size when that image is projected onto the skybox. This is to reduce computer resource cost while making the map space seem bigger.

As far as editing fog goes; I believe that fog information is stored in the map file. If that's the case, then you'll have to decompile the relevant maps, set the fog information, recompile and pray you got it right. However, you may also want to look through a list of the console commands and see if there are any relevant to what you need.

Half Life 2 Update takes care of that problem among other things like increasing grass draw distance and adding HDR lighting and better shadows.

I have the same draw distance issue too on the Hwy 17 map etc. The reason I'm posting here is I also have some issues with seeing the interior of buildings and houses unless I get close or zoom in. The windows will be dark / blank untill I get closer then I can see inside. Is this the same type draw distance bug as the others?
On a side note in some places certain objects will be invisible till I get very close (as in barely 10 feet or so) then they fade in quickly. I first really noticed this while walking on the fence near a warehouse in water hazard. There's a blue dumpster near a garage door that has a watermelon in it. It can only be reached by jumpnig from the fence. Don't have screenies of the watermelon though just a house from hwy 17:
