Alyx Should Have Been the Main Character (Probably Controversial?)

She's the one with the connection to other characters in the setting, she's the one with a speaking role, she's the one who's meant to be leading and influencing the resistance.

Having Gordon return from HL1 as a main character just makes HL2 cheaper. He could still be talked about, but he really should have stayed away as more of a reference for returning players. He feels like someone who doesnt belong (which is intentional), but it also makes you feel like a spectator even though every character won't stop praising you.

(but I guess HL2 released at a time where having a woman as a main character didn't fly and many players were teens who would have been upset by it)

This video is kinda old, they have been impoved a little bit now, also you can adjust viewmodel_fov aswell if i'm not mistaken. And I mean it's best mod right now currently it makes the game to work as a Desktop PC game, unlike the other currently released mods, which are either just VR emulators or just simply HL:A with Half-Life 2 weapons, so either of these two alternative to this mod ways are near impossible or straight up broken to play. So this mod currently is the best solution, though we are yet to see SoMNsT mod released, which looks to be way more polished atleast in terms of animations, it's been in development even longer than this mod.

Well, I wouldn't say Alyx should be the main character, but I would've liked it more if she had a bigger role. Alyx is never really all that present in the base HL2 and is more of a side character. Come to think of it, a majority of characters in HL2 aren't seen for that long. In most of the game, Gordon is essentially alone and despite getting help occassionally, he's on his own.

That's one of the reasons I prefer the story in the episodes; there are higher stakes and the characters are more empathetic. Regardless, the base game did a fantastic job at making the characters feel like real, living people, way ahead of its time.
