10 files fail to validate ( edit 34 files lol)

when i verify integrity of half life 2's game files it always says 10 files failed to validate, they will be reacquired

Seems like that happens to everyone, including me. I've been playing anyway and not having problems.

same here i cant load into my saves because of this

click on steam settings
then downloads
then clear download cache then clear cache

then steam verify game files and hopefully this time whatever is stuck/corrupt/unfinished
completes successfully this time

could also go to folder
...\steam\logs
look in file content_log.txt for lines with appid 220 (this game)
might be an error msg what is wrong

Have you deleted steam cache and restarted?

Just a heads up, I was having the same issue but my game would not launch at all. I decided to try running it in compatibility mode, picked Windows 8, and now it runs fine. Shrug.

yeah i did still doesnt work

with no error msgs in the steam logs nor windows
and you have checked your antivirus log
and there is space on the disk
why steam will not write 10 files and no error msgs = report it

click on steam help/support then fill out a trouble ticket

just got an update:

without knowing why the files cannot validate - out of space, folder/file permission issues, disk issues, which files - maybe uninstall the game and try reinstalling.

click on steam help/support then fill out a trouble ticket

edit: do not play another hl2 game while update occurring - the other games use the hl2 files so update will not write over them

It ran fine earlier this evening, now every save loads to a frozen screen and then the game crashes (gracefully) to desktop.

It was alternating between 16 and 32 invalid files for me, between attempts to run hl2 and load a save. I cleared the cache, and I'm not current getting the message about the number of invalid files but it still seems to be downloading updates/files.

me too but it does bother me a little bit which does annoy some people

I been having the same problem too. No matter how many times I do it, hl2 is still broken. However hl2 ep1 and ep2 work completely fine with no issues at all, just hl2 for some reason
