cant change the clip size in the scripts for the SMG but outher guns I seem to be able to change clip size
I tried to changing the clip size of the smg from 45 to 20. however every time i save it and launch the game it still 45. the pistol and shotgun work fine. I change the pistol from 18 to 15 and the shotgun from 6 to 8 and thy work fine in game. the clip size change for those guns but not the smg. I dont know why this is. is thier something in the games code that prevents this? why can I change variables for the pistol and shot gun but I cant for the smg?

can someone please help me?

I had noticed this before- this is because for, some yet unknown reason, a misc_dir vpk in the hl2_complete folder has a weapon_smg1.txt file, which takes precedence
txt files for the rpg and crossbow are in there too

Short of packing an edited vpk to replace the one in there, I'm not sure. Workshop mods would be a fair shot, but the one I know of that exists has some comments saying the clip sizes aren't being changed. Probably a bug on the user's side though

I know of that one. It worked fine for me but then my cross hair was disabled. I reinabled my cross hair but the ammo counter went back to vanilla. whats funny is that it didnt do that before the cross hair and mod seemed to work fine
do you what vpk the script is in?

the vpk is 'hl2_complete_misc_dir', you'll see it right in the hl2_complete folder in Half Life 2's directory
thank you
im trying to edit the file in GFCscape but it wont save my edits?

You can't edit them directly with GCFScape unfortunately
What you can do is extract everything from the vpk, make your edit and then repackage it

I don't know if it's there by default since I always have the SDK stuff installed for odd cases like this, but you'd be able to find a vpk.exe file in the main directory's bin folder to take care of packaging it back together. Just make sure you have the original backed up for one, and second, be sure to have the replacement named correctly, and that it still has the same files.

I tired to repackage it but it still didnt work. sorry for the long reply. but I was tierd. so i took a nap. then I decided to extract it then edit the script the repackaged it. I dont what I did wrong.
tbh im kinda just accepting it as is maybe valve will make another small update in the future to fix this.

When you repackage it, do you have it set up as a folder, with the materials and scripts folders inside?
the folder that you drag onto the vpk.exe is what gets made into a vpk, so you want to make sure that when you're doing it, it's structured to have the two folders inside

Add
game+mod hl2_complete/custom/*
To gameinfo file in hl2_complete

Then make a ''custom'' folder in hl2_complete and put the vpk file containing the modded scripts into the ''custom'' folder, and voila. You are set.

Add said folder like a game+mod folder in the gameinfo like it does with other custom files, and you *should* be golden. HAve fun - I did this myself, worked fine for me ^_^

im sorry for being rude or stupid but could you reword this? so in the custom folder do i have to add another folder called the"game+mod" folder? also what do you mean by "gameinfo" like the gameinfo file?
