Stuck at Route Kanal
Ok, so im playing HL2 for the first time, yay me, and i need to know if i have done something wrong, or if ive broken the game. If you look at number 17 in this walkthrough, http://www.visualwalkthroughs.com/halflife2/routekanal1/routekanal1.htm, there isnt a train. I cant cross the tracks, as there is a train in the way. I've backtracked to see if there is something in the way, but i die instantly if i go too far back. I really dont want to have to start a new game.

Hi, EmptyHide, glad to hear you're playing through Half-Life 2; Welcome to Steam!

I'm not quite sure what the problem is though, the 17th picture in your walkthrough describes "Drop to the tracks then heal at the health station seen here. Bust open the crates for more supplies. Follow the tracks a short distance to an open gate on the right."

Are you saying you cannot reach the health charger because a train is blocking you on the tracks? There should be no train in that section, though eventually one will come, there shouldn't be any static (non-moving) train in that part. Is the train making any noise? Does the train look like the one in picture 13? Is it the same train that passed you at 13? In any case, you won't need to restart the game, but you might have to restart the level.

Do you have any saves that go back before the train got stuck? If not, you will have to go to 'New Game' in the main menu and select the 'Route Kanal' chapter. It starts at the beginning of the same map that you're on, you'll just have to kill a few metropolice again.

yeah, its weird, theres a static train, and train sounds. there are two guys standing next to it. i have the autosave from just prior, but unfortunatley no other saves. Ill try restarting the chapter like you saud. many thanks.

No problem, it looks like this is a bug with the relatively newer Half-Life 2 update Valve applied to try and add some engine upgrades. Much to the communities despair, several bugs were also introduced that were never there before, and unfortunately this is one of them. I just saw an error report with a video and screenshot of this here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=35304054&postcount=683

It seems you can recreate the effect by putting barrels in the way of the track. Try again and keep the track clear of any objects. Good luck!
