Do you consider Half Life 2 to be the greatest game ever made?

Yes, quite honestly. In fact it's up there with a few other great games. The reason being is that it's a solid game that still holds up really well in 2024. The graphics aged well, the story and the gameplay as well as the technology it was pushing back in 2004, such as the physics. The game is easily one of the best.

It was worth a playthrough and I had some fun in Synergy and the myriad of mods that came out for it back when Steam was first becoming a thing, but Its not the greatest game ever made. But Half-life 3/L4D3/TF3 hype engage none the less.

i think half life 1 is the best game ever, compared to half life 2 it has more sense that it is because 1 is far more solid and iconic more than 2, and obviously other 100 reasons that i could go with, and 20 of them are quite untuchable... i always thinked that 1 was the best, 2 has more things not right and is a bit more flat...

i don't. i just like the game a lot. the more games i have played, the less i believe there's some "greatest" even among the classics and best-sellers.

besides, i suspect that "greatest game" mindset stirs up swarms of morons calling the game bad/mediocre out of bad faith. shooter players really could do away with all this.

Yes, the problem with the community's that call best the game is because they don't really think... I once asked on off topic what is the best game ever objectively for you, and people came out with extremely personal opinions, games that no one will remember in 15 years or less... Many people tags a game with "pbestgeimevhaaa"... But i don't think they really think that, and don't know anything about art... I think half life 1 is the best game ever, but after a lot of thinking and research, even if im wrong i at least tried very deep, and i say that with heart and brain at maximum... I don't think a person that call like... Baldur's gate 3 the best think with the same deepness... People give so much love but they don't actually think if it is deserve, like 95% of game related music/soundtrack are overrated for the same reason for exemple... Sometimes i ask myself if people have sensitivity, humanity, soul in the brain, because i see on Internet so much love and hate, so much premature and random... That's why im so convinced that half life is the best game ever, like is a fact... Because i probably never see a person that fight me with the same deepness and soul that i have when thinking of half life...

So yes, 95% of the time that someone call a gane best, is just insignificant... And art is valued in time too, like you can't say that if a few years and probably more don't pass...

Greatest? Not really, the indie teams that built on top of the Half Life story did it a lot better, however considering how well HL2 was, it definitely was amazingly made. As for that indie game I claim is better, that is Entropy Zero 2. I've played literal horror games that made me bored out of my skull, and the super headcrab zombie hiding underneath Arbeit made me ♥♥♥♥ myself.

nah it's more less overrated than you think, many people think half life fans praise for hl2 and are psychopaths fanboys, in reality the majority NOW think it's a masterpiece but not the best...
