Help with binding an Xbox one controller

Hey guys, was looking forward to playing this masterpiece for the first time using my xbox one controller, (I REALLY would prefer not to play MnK) and had trouble binding most of the actions. For example, when I turned on enable gamepad and went to change the controls, the game does not read half of my buttons. I wanted to make the move forward action up on the left stick obviously, but HL2 seems to read it as up on the Dpad, this is the same for every other direction on the stick. The game also doesn't register stick clicks (clicking in on either stick), the back button (opposite the start button) or the entire right stick at all. If anyone knows any solutions or anything help would be greatly appreciated. It's also worth mentioning I am very new to pc gaming and have the general pc knowledge of a boomer so it would help me to be as descriptive as possible.. Thank you!!

that's odd, i just plugged in my series x controller and it worked, no binding required, even the menus worked with the joystick. did it work before you changed the controls?

It only worked partially which is what prompted me to have to try to change things. The flashlight wasn’t bound to anything and I wasn’t able to sprint for some odd reason. I have no idea what else wouldn’t be bound to anything the longer I played unfortunately, this could be some odd issue on my end, I’ll try uninstalling and reinstalling it

huh, yeah there doesn't seem to be a button for the flashlight. sprint for me was on the left bumper.

actually i may have figured something out. what menu did you go into to change things? cause steam has its own controller options for this game, in your library, not the game itself, there's a place that comes up when you have your controller plugged in, with a button to open the controller settings, you can manually remap each control

Ahh I see! I was trying to remap the controls in game, but I just checked what you said and this worked for me! Thank you so much for the help! I honestly didn’t even expect anyone to reply at all, I seriously can’t thank you enough!!! Have a great day <3

I want to bump this because I want to change the share button to quicksave. Any help would be great. Gamebar keeps taking precedence.
