I remember trying to play HL2 from the discs and having about 5 FPS max. I was so adamant about playing through it as someone who loved HL1 since the age of 13 (I'm almost 40 now), and I was forced to endure a slideshow until I reached Water Hazard and simply could not progress any further due to not being able to make that jump near the end of the map because of the choppy frames. Memories, man, memories.
EDIT: In all seriousness, I still cannot believe they sat on Half-Life for this long. I know it's been endlessly talked about to death and I've given up on this franchise at least a decade ago, but it's absolutely insane to me to think I remember being a 13 year old playing Half-Life 1 (and especially TFC/CS) on 56k dialup with perfect clarity. I remember the roughly 750MB file size of Team Fortress Classic and not only that being a big deal at the time, but it taking absolutely forever and a day to download and install. I went from a young teenager to a middle aged man in the span of time since then and there's STILL no mention of HL3.
I can confidently say I will be opting out of HL3 simply because my interest in Half-Life peaked several lifetimes ago and the industry as well as the way games are made in general from the ground up has changed completely since then. People have lived and died in abundance since Half-Life 2 was relevant. I do hope it brings a lot of enjoyment for people who are still engaged, and I appreciate (and feel a little sick about) the trip down memory lane.
Here's to Half-Life and Valve for bringing me a literal lifetime of entertainment.
TLDR: I'm old, pay me no mind - sorry for the wall of text but the thought of HL2, WoW and other milestones of my young adulthood being 20 years old is chilling me to the bone.
Oh man it's ok, a wall of text is better than something short and stupid. As i think - they're not making hl3 because of the amount of time passed by, doing a short game would be rude. Kelly Bailey doesn't work on Valve anymore (as i know). So there won't be such a good music in future half-life series. You are a real fan playing the game even though your computer could barely run it, thank you for answering.
Thank you so much for indulging me. I guess time just catches me by surprise sometimes. Take care.
Now, let's see. The last time I saw you, I sent you up for help after the resonance cascade. I never thought it would take you this long to get back to me!
