Why is USP Match a bad weapon?
In HL1 Glock 17 is 100% accurate gun which is always useful for long distance enemies.
Here pistol is pretty bad and not accurate.

So what are situations in hl2 where pistol is more useful than anything?

Crossbow, Magnum are the most accurate. Not to mention pistol is not really accurate compared to submachine gun and impulse rifle.

Those are also in HL1

The pistol is a lot more accurate than SMG
people seem to forget the fact that the pistol is the best weapon to blow up explosive barrels. one shot does nothing, two sets it on fire, and three blows it instantly. also, the ammo for the magnum and crossbow is intentionally rare, so the pistol can be useful sometimes in combat, though not much. it's also true that it's less accurate than HL1.
also, ammo for it is plentiful. there's still tons of pistol ammo all the way in nova prospekt

When you run out of ammo, long range. Neither of which the pistol was useful for in HL1.

Why do you keep making so many pointless threads?

Was wondering about this too.

tbvh potshotting from afar with the glock is something i greatly appreciate. it's cheap in ammo yet not a chore to do. usp really is worse in that regard even if it is useable.

real answer to the question is that gimmickfest and changes of tempos are main themes of hl2. valve loved to make something for a moment then drop it for another gimmick. the pistol plays in that dynamic by serving in specific chapters, for instance the early gunfights and its barrel minigames, ep1's lowlife making you rely on alyx and maybe ep2's strider busting.

Good luck killing a metrocop with a bugbait.

Why would I use a magnum or crossbow over the pistol to kill a barnacle or headcrab?

I use smg, impulse or shotgun

it depends, if you are just spamming with the pistol, of course it will not be that much accurate but if you dont then it's a good weapon for both short and long range, later in the game the pistol becomes a lot more useless but it can still help you, and no, the smg is not good for long range

This makes me think you could probably play the entirety of HL1 using just the glock and it would be a semi-decent challenge, and that trying to beat HL2 with just the USP would be utter pain.

sounds harder because of level design rather than pistol strength. hl2 script forces you to kill many bulletproof enemies to advance, and its escort missions expose the npcs a lot more than in hl1 where you could clean up beforehand.

beating monsters or combines with the pistol is very much manageable. you won't want to kill everyone nor engage from as far, but there are other tricks to kill them at medium-close without too much damage.
