Trying to get Bowling for Barnacles, but can't get to that part.
I played this game last year. I got 30 of 33 achievements. One I'm trying to get is the pretty easy "Bowling for Barnacles." I know that it's in the Route Kanal level, but I have too many saves and I can't get to any saves that are early enough in the game to get to that part.

Anyone have a suggestion for how I could find a save that's before the Bowling for Barnacles part of Route Kanal? Is there any way to find the right save by examining the contents of the .sav or .tga files?

A good place to get Barnacle Bowling is in the second map of Route Kanal.
From the main menu, you could start a New Game at that chapter. It will start you with a typical set of weapons/ammo.
Or use a developer console command to start at the specific map:
map d1_canals_01a
But doesn't the dev console prevent getting achievements?

No.
Not unless you specifically activate sv_cheats.
Thanks! That did it. I think the ones for shooting down enough helicopters and not stepping on the ant lions' ground just will not work. No hope at all there, I think. Thanks again.

Keep Off the Sand!
It is easy to accidentally touch the sand without knowing, as the antlions do not always appear. It is important to listen for the sound of the ground rumbling.
Some guides suggest that turning on the "thumper" will prevent the achievement from working.
The achievement "starts" at the beginning of map d2_coast_11, and is awarded when you drop down to where the antlion guard is.

One Man Army
The 6 gunships must be destroyed in the one playthrough. The 1st gunship is in the second map of Highway 17, and the 6th is in the last map of Sandtraps.
The only place the game records your progress is within the save files, so you can't "go back" and get the ones you may have missed. If you start a New Game at any chapter, or use the map command, you will start with "zero" gunships destroyed.
