Burnt corpse texture

Is it really based of an actual burnt man image or is it just rumours? I don't think valve would add something like this in the game.

It's a forensics picture of an anonymous burn victim. A Valve artist probably found it on the web back in the day. It isn't unusual for disturbing images to be used as references for creating convincing textures or displays.

Yeah, and they changed that in later games, for example, in Left 4 Dead 2 they had a folder with lots of wonds pictures and stuff, for the infected textures, but later on the artist used potato peels and other non violent images.

Yeah it's real. It's edited slightly, as the picture from the textbook still had an eye and hair, both of which were removed for the burnt corpse texture.

I was analyzing the model in game and if you look really closely you can still see some parts of the hair that didn't got cropped.
