THE CAT

Did you know that the "cat" Barney keeps talking about is actually one of the half life 2 textures?
Thats is why there is a cat texture... I think

I believe he kept talking about the cat because they used it for testing the teleporter they had made. Something horrific might have happened to said cat that freaked him out which sounds more plausable.

According to the Half-life 2 Beta audio files that cat got turned into delicious doggy chow during a failed attempt to send mittens across the universe.

I always like to think Barney himself went through the teleporter and had a haunting vision of a cat (like a bad LSD trip) and is subsequently permanently scared for life, waking up in the middle of a night in a cold sweat and everytime he hears the yowl of a cat he breaks down into a fetal postion like a Vietnam Vet on New Years Eve.

Maybe it was turned inside out? that's a classic risk of teleportation in sci-fi films/shows.

I think I know the "cat texture" you are talking about. I've seen it on a few Garry's Mod maps.
It's some image of someones cat (possibly an employee's cat at the time)

I'm pretty sure that texture is used as a placeholder texture for something.

I really wish most of the long dialog from the game wasn't taken out. Without all of the dialog originally in "A Red Letter Day" it really seems like Kleiner and Barney aren't too amazed you came back after like.. twenty years.

I do understand most of the dialog from the beta leaks were most likely test recordings or placeholders (as the voice acting isn't as amazing)
