You know who killed Eli in the first place?
Vortigaunts.
You know if it wasn’t for the vorts alyx would never have been killed by a hunter. Convenient huh?
Vorts proved themselves of equal power to the Gman. At least as a collective they have equal power. Gman otherwise rescued both alyx and gordon from the explosion that killed breen.
The theory Gman is the developed is somewhat true. He is the developer. Yes. And we are the player he talks to.
He’s right.
Although popular YouTubers were begging for the finale to the half life episodes, for decades. Ultimately they don’t know that they wanted that game. They just thought they wanted that game. That the story needed to be finished. And that it was linear and we knew how it would all end. That’s why they are happy to retcon it. Because the storyline and character relationships is never what made half life a good game in fact the ai and the combat and the smooth operation of the game on nearly every cpu is what makes half life a great timeless game. But ultimstely Gman is never seen to be a bad guy.
Gman is always a step ahead of the player and he mingled with the resistance and hacked the tv screen to display his own image. And told everybody about the coming of freeman.
If they finish the story say goodbye to half life 4. If they wrapped it up into a happy ending, say goodbye to half life. That’s not what we want. Closure as some put it. Is not what we want. We want a cliff hanger because it means that there’s always an opportunity to continue the franchize. Without starting a new
Here's my questions: Did G-Man actually warn the resistance that Gordon was gonna return? I never knew that somehow, or never caught on to that.
Your point about Vortigaunts killing Eli, and the part before that, could you possibly go into more detail on that stuff?
Starting off, I am flattered.
Just throw this out there I am not employed or canon, and I am not writing the future half life games when I make these interpretations. But il try and create abit more lore around this one for you.
Barney and Eli are not bad guys. At least they are not intentionally bad guys, they are just ill informed. That is to say, gman see’s nothing remarkable, and nothing permanent about these characters.
So basically, Gman hates the combine. This is evident with his dealings with the resistance and his effective sub leadership of the resistance. Alyx had went in her crazy mission to free gordon. And wound up releasing the gman.
Pissed at his captors, the combine, and particularly pissed at Dr Breen for the way he had formed the combine during the gmans imprisonment. Gman sets out his best man, freeman to dismantle breens combine in city 17. For which he is successful. But this is where Gman wanted things to end. But the vorts had unfinished business with freeman and wanted to ensure the complete destruction of all assets and technology in city 17. Including the advisor grubs and other species that were mechanised or used as weapons of war by the combine.
The vorts had stated that they find it inappropriate to converse in their own language around humans considering it rude unless they wish to say unflattering things about them. And so proceed to speak in their own language they do. This is not to say they speak unflattering things of gordon, but they may well say unflattering things about earth and humans in general, This is one clue vorts are not to be fully trusted. However we receive a few mixed messages from them.
Gman reminds us, that once upon a time the vorts knew nothing of humans until they are coming at them with a crowbar in a steel corridor.
The combine in gmans absence has successfully quelled the vort population into near complete submission, though they are missing from their warrior ranks, they are not trusted or utilisable by either the combine as a weapon, or are not suitable to be weaponised at all. But they are themselves at their own will from their own merit quite capable of being effective combatants.
Vorts are seen to cooperate with the resistance and in many ways guide them. But even the resistance themselves are never too sure of the vorts. And tend to stay away from them. Or laugh about or at them.
Vorts appear to have great respect for freeman. Much as they have great respect for magnusson. However the respect and admiration shown for magnusson is suspicious at best. And it may be the case that the vorts have their own agenda, but are by nature a cowardly species that carefully picks its moments to seize control.
As Gman is freeman’s advisor, and leader, we as the player are never reluctant to respect his advice. And there is something in particular about vortigaunts that Gman dislikes. Perhaps that the cascade was caused by those 4 vort leaders, seen in half life 1, and not at all to do with gmans purest xen crystal sample yet. In fact Gman provided a high quality product that was well within acceptable bounds. But appears it was hijacked.
Eli doesn’t understand this context. And nor does it appear anybody at white Forest understood that context either. Only gordon was privy to those 4 vorts he was teleported in front of..
But who knows
Gman is vastly more powerful than the combine advisors. And can kill them at will. And so he doesn’t need the vorts to steal freeman, risk freeman’s life, Gman will handle the remaining combines all by himself. This is assuming advisors openly rule the other cities. Since Gman is capable of handling the advisors the vorts interference is a detriment and risk to freeman’s life and Gman cannot watch over freeman constantly but he is forced to protect him at this point.
Elis interpretation of Gman as an enemy is contradicting to gmans actions in saving gordon multiple times from imminent death at the moment of death. But it seems the vorts want to provide this service to us instead. And we have to ask, why? Gman released freeman for a good reason. But what is it do we owe the vorts for saving us? Did they save us? No they didn’t. They stole us for their own purposes which are as of yet, unknown.
Gman is true to himself. He doesn’t pretend he is a perfect person. And he doesn’t go out of his way to portray himself as a good guy. However, the vorts portray themselves as angels of sorts. And it’s suspicious that they do this. It’s suspicious that they don’t fight the combine. And their cowardice to do so shows. It suspicious vorts have so much power to resist Gman, but are unable to do anything about the combine. Strange huh?
Although, one thing I noticed is that you mentioned HL:A as something that actually happens within the normal timeline. Which I don't think is true.
Reference: "Alyx had went in her crazy mission to free gordon. And wound up releasing the gman. Pissed at his captors, the combine, and particularly pissed at Dr Breen for the way he had formed the combine during the gmans imprisonment."
I can't read for sh1t so maybe you aren't insinuating that but, I'll explain what Half Life: Alyx's ending was. G-Man purposely gets trapped by The Combine in hopes that Alyx will prove her usefulness by trying to save him, although she thinks he's Freeman. When she does he becomes proud and decides to put Alyx into status and save Eli, as for Gordon, due to the Vorts, he has stopped listening to The G-Man and gone his own way. Finally a FREE-MAN, free from the control of The G-Man, he is now a separate entity for the most part. This is shown by The G-Man not caring about Freeman, and moving on to Alyx, and she disappears from the present as The G-Man watches Eli get all mad [if you play HL:A, you can see The G-Man in the distance to the left during the post credit scene] As for saving Eli, I'm glad you made your point here because I do think it's interesting that G-Man basically saves Eli Vance though I don't know why he'd take Alyx.
I mean alyx went to a lot of effort to rescue Eli from the combine. Where he was in combine stasis and they have let on like in the future eli is going to do the same for alyx. And he probably should. But, the motives are unsure. Gmans plans obviously have completely changed. And we all know Eli isn’t actually going to save alyx. Gordon is. Gordon will do all the work.
How is it known that Gman purposely traps himself? Didn’t the combine use captured vorts and forced them to use their powers to contain him? I can’t say much on it because I don’t actually own that game and haven’t played it.
The whole thing is mindblowing.
He's probably like that evil chancellor guy from Star Wars who is secretly an influence on both sides playing each other to fulfill his goals and betrays them all once he got what he wants.
