Subtitles too big

help. ever since the recent updates my subtitles became ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ massive.

same here! i just noticed it when i turned on the subtitles in a mod i was playing, it's so weird.

I think they made so it would be easier to read on Steam Deck.

Yeah but how do I make it smaller again? I'm on a laptop and this covers half my screen sometimes.

Am I the only one who has too small subtitles since the Steam Deck update? I mean, I clearly remember they were larger, but now they're even pixelated a bit

The font for subtitles is set in this file:
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\resource\clientscheme.res

Open the file with a text editor, and search for the items starting with "CloseCaption_".
The font size is the "tall" value (default "15" for the Deck, "12" otherwise).
(Prior to the updates, it was set at "26", so they must have changed the scaling.)
Change the "12" values to increase or decrease the subtitle font size.
Save the file, then restart the game.
