Can't move HL2 Content to my default Library Folder/Drive
Hi,

Just wanting to start playing through HL2 again.

I have its Steam content folder on my HDD (D-drive) & a backup on my new NVMe SSD (E-drive).

Problem is Steam points to the D-drive, so I tried to move the game's content folder to the E-drive, but I keep getting an error: "Moving content for the following App has failed; Half-Life 2 has shared content".

I have a few saved games from today on the D-drive (not many, so no big deal if I lose them, but would prefer not to), so if the only way to move the content is by uninstalling the game, then I guess I can do that.

Is there any way to avoid this though?

Should be a better way, but if all else fails use symbolic links.

I'm pretty sure you have to go to Steam/Settings/Downloads to change the location of your game folders, after you create the new location folder.

Here's Steam's Official Instructions on how to do it:

A long time ago, I moved mine to a "Steam" folder on my "E:" drive and it's been working just fine.

All games that share the same Source engine need to be installed on the same drive.

If you have Steam Cloud enabled, saves will be copied automatically when you play.

Yeah, that's the easy way to do it, but not all software plays well with them, and major Windows Updates have a nasty history of breaking them.
Moving the files is the cleanest and most stable way to go.

Thanks guys. Steam support ended up getting back to me & helped out.

I just had to uninstall Half-Life: Source also as it is linked to HL2.

I was then able to move HL2 to the new SSD. Flyin now!
