Half-Life 2

HL2 EP2 made me realize that Valve isn't as good as we thought
I've finished the HL2 games and tbh the ending of EP2 made me depressed and left wondering what will happen after the events of EP2 since it's left on a cliffhanger. But now I have to deal with the fact that valve will never make another half life game ever again because there hasn't been any news about the game except that it was teased by the ending of HLA. I just want to know if humanity will ever escape from the grasp of the combine, will Gordon fix up the ♥♥♥♥ he was involved in at Black Mesa, is Gman the man behind all the ♥♥♥♥ that happened in HL2, or will HL ever end at all?

I get the Valve wants to finish what they want to finish but Half Life is a series that still have loose ends with it's story, plus CSGO has enough content to be considered finished and why play DOTA 2 when League of Legends exist? Pretty much Valve is milking CSGO, DOTA 2, and TF2 to the ground because why make a game that'll eventually fail when you could just gain easy money off of game sales and micro transactions from their 3 most popular multiplayer games. Hell they even added in prime status in CSGO which is basically paying real money just to rank up and be paired with actual players instead of just easily fixing VAC which is a real lazy and EA move. To add salt to the wound they created Artifact, a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ DOTA card game that has the purpose of adding new cards for each update and probably putting a price tag on it. In response they developed Half Life Alyx except they made it a VR exclusive limiting the audience to a platform that has 58.9 million/700 million of PC gamers that own it. Either they did this to "revolutionize the VR platform" or just an excuse to gain more sales off of the Steam Index as not everybody have the specs/budget to get a really good pc + a $1000 VR headset

What really baffles me is that the PC master race is still respecting Valve despite the questionable and utterly anti-consumer decisions they've done. I'm starting to get sick of this and it's time that we do something about this. Not only am I angry at you Valve, but my respect for you as a game company has been lost

You probably don't remember this, but CS:GO used to be paid and then Valve made it free to play...

Dota 2 peaks at 600K players daily, CSGO at 900K, and even if they can be considered 'finished' (this doesn't really make much sense, but anyways), no single player game will ever achieve such numbers (certainly not years after its initial release, and not at this time), and Gabe understands that.

The oddest thing, though, is that it doesn't seem like they care too much even about Dota/CS:GO and certainly not TF2 which has been struggling with disruptive bots for years now.

I'd say they simply aren't interested in anything old now.

They made Half-Life Alyx because they wanted to make a VR game, not because they wanted to make a Half-Life game. They didn't make it to "revolutionize the VR platform". Nobody sets out to revolutionize anything, it just kinda happens.

They care about VR, they care about VR so much that they spent a decade innovating the technology and another half a decade trying to make the best VR game they can. HLA started development before the Index was a thing, it started development before even the Vive was a thing. They made the game for an industry that didn't even exist. Not exactly the best move for a company that wants money. If they would care about money they would just make a normal Half-Life game, but they didn't.

They didn't make Half-Life 3 because they couldn't. They tried for a decade but they could never get the project off the ground. There was no one telling them to make it. Valve doesn't work like a normal game company. There are no dedicated teams, no deadlines. Everyone works on whatever they want to work on, which has it's pros and cons.

The con is that projects never get finished, because a lot of people have to be interested in a specific project for it to take off. And if they have any creative disagreements that usually means that the project is falling apart.

The pro is that whenever they do finish something, it's a masterpiece, because they put their souls and hearts into it, it was a project they were truly passionate about.

There are few exceptions to this. Artifact was an honest mistake. It was a legitimate attempt at making a card game. They even had the guy who created Magic The Gathering involved. But they failed. They thought that they made something good and that they could put their name on anything and it would be successful, but they were wrong. But they did try to fix it, they immediately started working on Artifact 2.0. They realized they made a mistake and they were ashamed of it.

Most of the stuff I'm saying is probably new to you, and you have a hard time believing it. And I get, most of the gaming industry is like this. They only care about money. They make anti-consumer decisions and overwork their workers to make ♥♥♥♥♥♥ games that make millions. Valve might seem like this from the outside, but they are not like that. They have their own problems, but greed is not one of them. Valve has a hard time communicating, they actually don't have a PR department. They barely ever communicate, so people make wrong assumptions about them.

People respect Valve because they care. They care about the games they make and they care about the people who play them. Even if they have a hard time communicating this.

CSGO is only focused on competitive esports, anything non-competitive about Csgo is a mess and they never bothered fixing them. It's like they're saying "these filthy casual pricks will be happy with whatever bone we throw at them... now lets un-ban that twitch streamer who was 'wrongfully' banned, this looks bad for our competitive scene... "

I lost hope that they will make another good singleplayer game.
