As a sequel to Half-Life, Half-Life 2 is crap
Misses all the high notes of the first game. Boring City 17, dumb unvaried boring enemies that just run at you and die. Boring car sequence, boat sequence, Citadel Stalker elevator sequence. Boring dialogue you can't interact in. Boring weapons too.

I think a lot of the love for this game is buried in nostalgia and the newfangled Source engine, and physics. But as a sequel to HL1...ech.

i literally just played HL1 today (non stop until the credits) and i had a blast.
now i force myself through HL2 and it is so boring and dull compared to 1 it's crazy.
i remember even playing it again on my PS3 and my memories were pretty good about this game.

no idea what it is but i really dislike it.

This guy is obviously a zoomer and too use to easy games with no challenge.
I think he is mostly talking about Half-Life Source, or got the two confused.
It's clearly satire.

Depends on who and how you use them.

That would make sense if Half-Life 2 had good weapon balance. Unfortunately it hasn't. USP is a peashooter in late game. SMG is overshadowed by shotgun. Yeah, by a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shotgun. HL2 shotgun is a fine choice in medium range. Bugbait loses use after Nova Prospekt chapter. However, the worst thing is that crates adapt to your needs. You can use one weapon during entire game and you aren't punished for abusing drops from crates.

Most of enemies can be killed by using any weapon type without any creative tactic.
you can say most if not all of this about half life 1,

Apart from the dull environment of a concrete bunker, and lack of story, I really don't like the combat. I will quote someone else's take from the Black Mesa forum, who I agree with:

"I really just can't get into the combat in this game, and it seems like it's the one thing holding it back for me. Enemies just go from 0 to 100 in an instant. Either dashing around and changing directions like inertia is a suggestion, or just instantly shooting you (without even having to fully face you). The accuracy on most of your guns is poor yet you can get picked off pretty effortlessly by the AI with firearms at a distance. And when you do hit them, they barely react if at all."

It also seems like every enemy soldier has infinite amounts of grenades to spam you with.

"Dull Environment" sounds more like your preference. City 17 and Black Mesa are interesting in their own unique way.
Story is better in HL2,however,game likes to lock you for 10 minutes straight with NPCs. Replayability is nonexistent because of it.

I don't understand point about enemies. Vort needs to charge its attack. It takes time.Alien grunt will give you a split second to react before it attacks. It is balanced by alien grunt's slow projectile weapon. Before soldiers attack you, they will either change positions or signal to each other that they have detected you. This is a lot of time for the player to react. Dashing? Changing directions? What does that even mean? You mean tactics? NPCs in HL2 do it too (Combine soldiers).

I disagree with the point about weapons in HL1. A very simple example will prove it. The Glock is perfectly accurate, but the USP in HL2 is not. The Glock can be used to conserve ammo for powerful weapons. The Glock is always useful in HL1,however,the USP in HL2 is not. Inaccuracy can only apply to the MP5, however, the same can be said for the MP7 in HL2. MP7 is overshadowed by AR2 (medium to long range) and shotgun (close to medium range). MP5 and Spas are balanced in HL1 because these weapons don't contradict each other. Spas is for close range.MP5 is for medium range. MP7 is a very weak choice for medium range.

In HL1, the NPCs don't have the accuracy to take you out easily from a long distance. They don't even deal enough damage to do so. The comment was probably referring to the soldiers from Black Mesa. They have very high accuracy and can shoot while running (In the original soldiers couldn't run and shoot).

Combine soldiers have infinite amounts of grenades too. Grenades are used to punish hiding player.
yes, replayability is nonexistent because of cutscenes

Yeah, that why it got so many awards and why I played it about 20 times. (snicker)

Personally, I like this game. It's easier because you play on easy difficulty. Try beating d3_c17_13 on hard difficulty and then talk. Half Life 1 is a repetitive game, everything looks blocky and it's just some extra useless levels, with their only use of existence is to make Half Life longer. All of the HL1 levels seem very useless. Half Life 2 on the other hand is not repetitive. Every level was actually worked on. It has much detail. Half Life 2 has a MUCH MUCH interesting lore. I mean, in HL1, you're just a scientist and you're part of an unfortunate event that causes aliens to come to Black Mesa. You walk and walk through repetitive useless UNREALISTIC (do not mean blocky, it was just the limits of the engine at that time, I mean it's way too big for someone, even the government, to afford to build such a gigantic complex. The voicelines are very low quality as well, for modern standards. Half Life 2 is way more realistic and the story can be much easily understood. The Combine is an interesting concept, and why do you think there's more HL2RP servers than HL1RP servers (if they even exist)? Half Life 2 > Half Life 1

Theres this thing called:

"Preferences"

People like what they want, whos to dictate what they like or not? Who cares if Half-life 2 is a bad sequel? If the game makes you have fun then SO BE IT!!!!

Besides this game metacritic score kinda debunks this either ways , and metacritic is "voted by the public"...
