Ant LIons are OP - can I turn them off?
At first the ant lions were kind of cool. But now I'm in Nova Prospekt and they do all the killing for me. Its kind of making the game more boring for me. Is there a way to get rid of my ant lion army (or whatever they are) so that I can take out the Combine on my own?

I feel like they are sucking the fun out of the game right now. Thanks!

No, you can't turn them off and I've never seen a mod that removes them. I suggest just playing on hard mode so they are less effective. Though I will point out that the early Nova Prospekt areas would be very unfair without them.

Thanks, I think that I am past those levels, because now - unless I race to the combine officers, the ant lions get them before I can get to them. I was playing on regular, maybe I will turn it up to hard and see. Thank you!

To be honest I had the same opinion on the antlions when I first played the game years ago, antlions are programed to kill Combine soldiers in one hit so they get a good chunk of the kills. I think it helps to think of them less as kill-stealers and more as a weapon that the player is using against the Combine, they are supposed to be getting a lot of the kills on your behalf and you can direct them with the bugbait. They're sorta like the snarks from the first game, only they're actually useful.

Oh but I will, terribly designed weapon that is more likely to hurt the player then help them, like something out of Daikatana.

They're supposed to be. Most of NP would be too difficult because you'd get overwhelmed just from the amount of combine. Don't forget alot of them have Pulse rifles and Shotguns at this point.

You've clearly never tossed a bunch of them from the shot-out vent shaft on Surface Tension.

On the contrary, I find them OP.

That's probably the only place in the entire game where you can use them effectively and even then it's far quicker and more fun to just jump down and kill them yourself.

Treat them like cannon fodder, they only become a problem when you allow them to get in front of you, in which case SG it. I can't remember the last time I relied on them in NP and or used bug bait to position them. The combine spend enough time targeting them without help.

That bit after the cliff side with a half-dozen marines and a tank is so much easier with snarks.

I enjoy snarks until they finish with their target, then i become their target. Thats why i suggest using them from high up, or from behind cover.
