How the ♥♥♥♥ did combine even won 7 hour war
-Their armor is trash
-None of their snyths have rpg protection only bullet (nearly every country has missile launchers so)
-1 man with a hazard suit can take down 5 hunters with a SPAS shotgun that isnt modified and an entire soldier squad with miltiary grade armor cant take down 1?what the ♥♥♥♥?
-Striders are absolute trash they literally get killed from a rpg spam
-Combine didnt even exist
-Considering rebels use metropolice armor and dont die that easly Im pretty confident military grade bullet proof armors and juggernaut armors can do a lot more than that
-Why didnt countries started a nuclear war they almost did when 2 big countries got into a argument of "no ! c@n m@k3 m0r3 w3@p0n$ th3n U!!!"
-Combine prefers quantity over quality
-Before you go "bUt l3 cUmb!n h@d 0th3r $ynths!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!th3y w3r3 m0r3 p0w3rfUl!!!!"I dont care Im going by the ingame npc's
-Hunter choppers probably wasnt even a thing because combine couldnt copy paste them in their spastic war
-Gunships die to like 5 or 7 rockets
-Headcrab canisters can easly be avoided and you can just toss a grenade in their hole that headcrabs go out from

any opinions about anything else

its funny how everything turned out to be in HL2 but we never got to meet those galactic mf's that enslave whole civilizations in the first game all we did see in the first game are some strange energetic and nontechnological beings with no superior powers

I'm pretty sure even a well-secured fortress wouldn't necessarily by able to kill off 200+ giant synths that easily.

They didn't. There isn't a place in the game where either the battle or the aftermath of a large swarm of huge synths attacking a rebel base.

The closest thing to that was Episode 2's White Forest battle, but that's way fewer giant synths than what I was talking about.

what about how a few humans with probably no military training and the lowest combine armor invading city 17
Sovereign Jul 25, 2017 @ 6:13am
The Combine forces we see in HL2 & Eps are just a small garrison force made up of their smaller synths, the Combine fleets that wiped out most of humanity during the war would be way more powerful. But once the humans were successfully enslaved the warships and larger synths would have left as there was no reason for them to remain. A fleet of similar power would have arrived through the super portal in Ep2 if the rebels hadn't destroyed it (hence why Eli says "it it will be the 7 Hour War all over again... only this time we won't last 7 minutes").

Also you can't judge a FPS enemy's realistic capabilities from the perspective of the player character, most FPS protagonists are unrealistic one-man-armies and Gordon is no exception.

Also also the fact that their lighter synths (strider, gunship etc) can take 7 direct hits from guided rockets before dying is actually quite impressive considering that most human attack choppers can only take 1 or 2.

Also also also you have to take into account that the portal storms caused by the Combine's super portals was damaging human infrastructure and teleporting xen wildlife on to earth in large numbers, futher desrupting humanity, making them a softer target.

Why would the final boss of HL1 be a combine synth? The Combine aren't in HL1.

The obvious answer to this is that the war is long over and the enemies we see in the game are just the occupational force. They don't represent the full might of the Combine military, which has probably moved on to invade/conquer the next planet/dimension. They don't need to commit their most powerful assets to a babysitting mission, especially when there are apparently plenty enough human volunteers who are willing to do that job for them.

[Edit] 5 minutes too late. Basically what Sovereign said.

They didn't invade C17, they were already there, the entire citizen population rose up against the Combine who were taken of guard by their gorilla tactics. Though if you remember the rebels never actually won that battle.

What's with all this empty space? What are you trying to say?
And yes Gordon is a rebel but you may have noticed that he didn't win that battle either, the Combine just destroyed the entire city, forcing Gordon to flee.

I'm sorry mate but the largest combine unit we see in game is the strider, all we know about the larger Combine forces is that they're powerful and can destroy entire cities very quickly. I'm sure we would have seen larger unit's and ships in later games... if we actually got later games. :(

Actually you remind me of another good point about the Uprising McSwifty. At the start of the C17 Uprising the vast majoriy of Combine troops in the city were lightly equipped human metropolice, this would allow the suprise rebel attacks to gain a foothold in the streets before the Overwatch could deploy it's synth units (soldiers, elites, striders, gunships etc) to fight the insurgency.

You can't just ignore the lore and say it's a plothole. The Combine have larger forces that we simply don't see and the in game npc's are only a tiny fraction of their power, end of story.
