Slight justification to what Number Two described:
the Vortigaunts didn't escape Xen via the portals to Earth. They were indeed slaves of Nihilanth and were sent by him to attack Earth. Nihilanth was also a slave to the Combine, the last of his kind, and had teleportation capabilities.
A further addition to the story line, and not to ruin the hype of researching, look around on the web to what the Nihilanth keeps saying in the events of HL1 when you teleport from one Xen map to another. it's really interesting. it has to do with the G-Man
EDIT: http://combineoverwiki.net/wiki/Nihilanth/Quotes
Because they no longer have electroids attached to their testicles... Ever wonder why a bull in a rodeo is so ticked off... (That could be a lie though just like cake...)
I don't trust these vortigaunts.
However I have read too many stories where a hopeless people/race decided in the end for their own selfish desires and needs, to take over a planet that was helpful to them and took them in...
But I doubt Valve will be so cliche. But I also doubt Valve will be so vanilla as well... I am still curious about the G-man...
And a very funny one if i say so myself
