How Well Can I Run HL2 & Its Episodes?
Laptop: Lenovo IdeaPad 310-15ABR 800ST | OS: Windows 10 Home Edition X64
Processor: AMD A10-9600P 7th Gen @ 2.4 GHZ (4 Cores)
Graphics: AMD Radeon R5 512 MB @ 720 MHZ | DirectX: Microsoft Version 12
RAM: 12 GB DDR4 (11.4 Usable) | Storage: Gigastone 128 GB SSD (30 GB Left)

For reference, I used the benchmark test in Lost Coast and I got an average of 90fps however I did get fps drops below 40 when the Combine attacked me in the church. I understand it was a tech demo so obviously that intentionally has more graphical effects to showcase what Half Life 2 and the Source Engine is capable of. I get an average of 110fps in Counter Strike: Source at 900p ultra settings (without mods, AA and motion blur disabled) for the benchmark. Yes I know my laptop isn't meant for gaming but for low end standards it's pretty good so tell me what kind of framerate to expect? Finally, if you're wondering, I got over 150fps at 900p all settings max except AA in HL:S.

did you even read my first post? i checked benchmarks for hd 3000 and it can run hl2 at max settings and still get 60-80fps. the 3000 is slightly slower than my igpu. im asking since lost coast seems to have similar system requirements yet it ran like crap at some sections, and also i dont want the game to drop below 50fps at all. HELP! :steamsad:

It will drop below 50fps on most iGPU.

what should i do so it doesnt drop below 50 or as much...besides lowering the resolution or putting the settings to low.
Buy a better (desktop) PC with a dedicated GPU!

Error 404: Money not found, money used by tuition fees

Of course if I ever get the money, I'd build a gaming PC with some components listed here:
Intel Core i7 6th or 7th Gen @ 3.0 GHZ (4 Cores & 4 Threads)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti or GTX 970 4 GB
12 GB DDR4 Kingston Hyper FuryX RAM
250 GB or 500 GB Samsung EVO SSD
Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 10 Pro Edition X64
ASUS Gaming Motherboard...compatible with above parts ofc

I'm considering to get a Blu-Ray/DVD/Rewritable optical drive but i don't know if it'd be worth it considering that I can stream movies for cheap elsewhere. When I can afford them I'll have to wait for huge site or holiday sales to not be ripped off.

Be aware 60fps light cycle is the standard measure for the majority of peoples eyes, any increase is invisible for most. The differences below 60fps/hzs become obvious in slo mo

lol duh of course there is no difference visually speaking to go above 60fps on a 60hz monitor. but when it comes to mouse input, there's a big difference. even with a 120 hz monitor, i probably wouldn't want to have hundreds of frames either - i just want to not go below 50fps and have the fps stay at a consistent range.

Are you using a corded or cordless mouse? If you're using a standard mouse then you’re out of luck corded or not. Corded = faster sample rate shorter latency, game mouse adjustable sample rate.
Some games I must use cord, others can go cordless with little to no noticeable latency. I currently have a 144 Hz monitor; I have to mess with the game and Logitech software to go cordless with Obduction.

As for consistent fps I don’t think there’s anything that can guaranty “X” fps over the entirety of a game or particular session length except as an average.

Your using gpu from the cpu, were you running other progs in the background? If so you might have to shut some or all down while playing.

i dont have a gaming mouse and honestly wouldnt need one unless im playing a pvp competitive game right? yeah i have probably a few dozen programs running in the background but they each dont even use 1 mb of cpu usage with some only a few mb at most. obviously essential services i cannot disable or else my pc will...you know.

Using or not using a game mouse is relative to the player not their profession. I’m not keyboard adept, (3 finger hunt and peck) However, my g700s has 16 buttons, 11 programmable just for the game. I can also direct mouse sensitivity and switch to raw imput, much more stable and accurate.Without it I blow chunks, with the mouse I never have to take my good eye off the screen. The only keyboard keys I use for HL2 are directional, sprint, jump and weps menu.

As for the background progs you don’t have bought antivirus running? I’m still new to win 10 msconfig looks like a mess from win 7 can’t make sense of it. Have you tried playing HL2 offline?

but i guarantee you can't get consistent 60fps at ultra or max settings...no offense.

So you're new to Windows 10 eh? I freaking hate this OS with a passion, or at least the Home edition since Pro and Enterprise don't come with bloatware and it's entirely possible to permanently stop updates from installing (shocking isnt it).

The only programs that might have an impact when I play games would be CCleaner and OneDrive which I use to store all my school files as Outlook is my college's email.

Yes I did have a wired mouse, the Logitech M100, which I used for a little over a year and then it lagged like crazy for me over a month ago. At first it lagged randomly in-game and a few solutions like cleaning the optic tracker and switching to different USB port worked, but then it lagged more often until it started to lag on desktop which was the last straw.

Current mouse I'm using is Microsoft Wireless Mobile 3500 which is smaller but more ergonomic than the M100. I've been using it since 2012 and it still works fine aside from the broken scrolling wheel that malfunctioned over time.

When you’re able to scrape the bucks up for a good gaming mouse you’ll notice the change ASAP.

In 2016 my 6 yr old M510 started messing up too, prior to the issue I did see lag time between press and results, I attributed it to HL2 being an old game. Because of my playing style, (spasmodic) I had to go cordless. Know this, it had nothing to do with fps or screen tearing, using the g700s with some software tweaking removed all visually noticeable latency, I can’t tell the diff with my eyes corded or not.

The g700s also has in game dpi switching, when I attack distant BGs I tap a button and switch from 1000 dpi to 400, aim small miss small.

Nah bro, my M100 lagged in everything - clicking, scrolling, and moving the cursor. At first it was just the cursor then scrolling then finally clicking. Randomly the sound the computer makes when a USB device connects or disconnects also played during gameplay.

Aren't newer wireless mouse relatively lag free? Since I don't have the money to live on my own I only have a small table (places I rent with student loans only have small desks) with limited space so wireless I prefer more.
