RTX 2080TI Black screen in 4k only
Hi lovely people,

I've submitted this to steam so I will update as we go. In the meantime, I have the following issue that I've cut from the steam support description:

Good afternoon,

Until recently, all source games have been running fine on my system in 4k-

RTX 2080TI Nvidia driver ver 417.22
Core i5 8600K
16GB DDR4 XMP Mode
512GB Samsung 970 Evo NVME SSD
3840 x 2160 60hz on LG OLED TV

About a week ago, i started HL2 to play it through again and it will launch fine in any resolution but 4k, I now have a black screen with no audio that requires a restart to pull out of the launch.

At all other game resoultion setting inc window mode it works fine. It's just odd that the source games were running perfectly in 4k full screen until just approx a week ago.

I secure erased the SSD and installed everything again, latest build of win 10, latest Nvidia driver, chipset driver etc.. no joy.

One thing that may have been a factor was I had another display connected breifly over display port so windows had assigned a multimonitor profile - I read that this may have been the issue but after erasing the system and starting again I can't see how it could remain an issue unless steam somewhow saves a profile?

Seems a shame as it's stunning in 4k 60. Have tried various launch options like -nofbo, that makes no difference.

All non-source games run fine in 4k, maybe Nvidia changed something. Not sure, please help.

Don't know if this is related, but a 2080ti Is probably being bottlenecked by your i5 core. I may be wrong however, I'm not good with pc stuff. Rtx may also not be supported.

Then it may or not be a source engine problem.

Yes, worked fine. I've done some digging and rolled back the drivers several versions. Back to working in 4k again. I'll let Steam investigate it anyway as they might have more weight getting Nvidia to fix this.

It's actually quite a bad bug as it completly breaks 4k gaming on the source engine games - in full screen anyway - the best way to play.

I'll post a bug report to Nvidia and hope they can iron it out, I'm pretty sure they would want their flagship GPU's doing what they are marketed to do - run games in 4k lol.

Black Mesa is Source so all related currently ;)

I'm seeing the same issue. Trying to run HL2 on a laptop with core i7 and a 1070 GPU

I'm having the same issue with my evga 2070. Black screen but I hear sound. It worked fine until I increased the game resolution from 1920 x 1080 to, what the game said was native, 3840 x 2180 on my LG 43" 4K. Is there anything like in a config. file that I can change back to the previous setting? Btw, hlep1, hlep2 work fine at 1920 x 1080.

Interesting info, thanks. Currently running the older driver seems the way for me currently as everything works as intended.

Nvidia forums are rife with black screen issues so it seems they've ♥♥♥♥♥♥ something up.

2080 and Core i5 8600K? Thats the biggest bottleneck i have ever seen. Why would you buy that?

My point. You should upgrade your core.

It's heavily overclocked, trust me, no bottleneck with the CPU. If it runs the Witcher 3 @ 70 - 80 fps with all setting maxed then am I really missing out on a 60hz display?
