Bridge train
Did they screw up the train in an update or something? I've done this section a dozen times, I keep getting past the train on the bridge, but then exploding anyway out of nowhere and dying. It's like they've made the hitboxes twice as big or something. I don't remember this section being particularly hard in the past so I have no idea what the ♥♥♥♥ is going on.

In the end I just turned around and waited for the train to pass but that is extremely unsatisfying and annoying.

There is a difference between the HL2 update version and the older HL2 I've never been able to beat the train in HL2 but always do in the Update

You used to be able to outrun the train when HL2 first came out but it was later patched to make that basically impossible.

Wow. That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid. Like this game needed to be Left 4 Dead 2. Or Portal 2.

I let the train pass then I haul a** with speed boost to get past that spot

I also ran into this spot and died multiple times. It has been a few years since I've played but back then I'd ALWAYS beat the train. Youd be driving along, hear it, hit the turbo, be flying along, see the train, then see the gap, aim for the gap and out with barely any time to spare, the adrenaline was great and even though I'd never failed, it felt like you were super close to not making it.

last night no matter how much I tried, it seemed i was out the way but would get hit.

driving up to trigger the train then reversing is boring as ♥♥♥♥. I stopped, saved and quit for the night 1 minute after I finally got past.

In standard Half Life 2, you've got to keep driving down the tracks without stopping and using shift.

Once you hear the train horn in the distance, you've got to. Not tap shift, but hold shift down.

...or walk up to the trigger and wait for the train to pass. ',:T

I always forget that holding shift makes you boost way longer. Had no problem getting past the train doing it this way.

As I said, the few times I did play the HL2 update version I made it past the train most of the time with -0- contact

hmmm, I tried holding shift and didn't notice a difference. You still boost for the same amount of time, but you boost again quicker I guess.

What I do know is that if you hit an object like a traffic cone or portable direction signs while the cars chuggin nitro it provides an immediate boost extension
