Jittery Mouse Movement when Looking Around
Moving with the WASD keys is smooth as butter, but looking around with the mouse is not. Raw Input is enabled, and I tried Mouse Filter too, but that didn't seem to do anything. It's strange because this doesn't happen in HL1, L4D2, Minecraft, or Synergy. I haven't tested any Counter-Strike games or the Portal games, so I don't know if it's happening there. The game seems to be acting like it tabbed out but then didn't tab back in correctly, and it acts like the mouse is moving in the game but also on the desktop at the same time. I don't know if that's what it is or if I'm explaining it correctly, but I haven't been able to solve this through the internet. The only other thing that I think might contribute is that Mac OSX will soon be unable to support 32bit software, which all my Steam games use I guess (not an IT person). However, I have received the message that all my other games need to optimized for 64bit software, but they don't seem to have problems with jittery mouse movement. If anyone can help me fix this, I appreciate it. Apologies for such a wordy description, I don't know how to explain this problem.

low dps and high sens might be the problem. 3kliksphilip spoke about this in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XNUp70mDlQ

So I checked this out and there was something about a monitor and skipping pixels. I think I forgot to mention that I have my computer hooked up to a monitor, so I unplugged it from the monitor and tested out the movement in-game without the monitor, and when I looked side to side very quickly it was not very smooth. I turned down the tracking speed using the computer settings and then messed around with the sensitivity a little bit, but I had the monitor plugged in when I tried that, so I'm not sure how conclusive it was. In any case, the weird thing is that this still only happens in HL2, not even in HL1, so I'm starting to suspect that it's not low DPI and high sensitivity that's causing this, but I could be wrong. Thanks for the help anyway! I appreciate it!

It still could be, yup source games HL1/ HL2, still 2 different games with different coding. HL2 has much more going on in game than HL1

This is what puzzles me because I also play L4D2 rather frequently, but I have mouse movement that is smooth as butter, and that game is far more taxing on the computer than HL2, so I'm not really sure what the deal is :steamsad:.

Try increasing mouse pollrate if possible.

May I ask what pollrate is? Sorry if it's obvious and I just don't know, I'm not very tech savvy.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

That did the trick. I don't remember enabling the mouse filter, but turning it off and making sure the raw input is enabled fixed my problems. Honestly I feel kind of dumb for not noticing this :steamfacepalm: but I suppose it's not a problem now. Thanks a million!

Turning off the "Wait for vertical sync" option in the "Video" settings tab helped me. Also using borderless window mode.

I found this thread on Google and there is another fix that you can try. When you use MSI Afterburner, you can set a frame limit with RivaTuner Statistics Server for the game. I also had really unpleasant mouse movement stutter, and setting the frame limit to 59.996 was the only way for me to get rid of this mouse stutter for good. Letting the game run at 300 FPS can work well too, but for me it wasn't as smooth as with vsync enabled + RivaTuner frame limit on top. Hopefully this helps anyone else :3
