Error on FileSystem_Stdio.DLL
Wassup guys,

Anyone can help me? When i try to open HL2, appears this message: ''unable to load filesystem_stdio.dll''.

I tried to verified integrity of game cache 4 times, and tried to reinstall the game and verify game cache, but nothing.

Thanks for all help.
PS: Sorry, my english is bad, i think it's understandable.

go to folder
...\steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\bin
delete FileSystem_stdio.dll
run verify integrity of game cache. hopefully new copy downloaded with correct permissions
if it fails again, check antivirus logs. might be blocking steam/the game.
Thanks =)

Hello,

unfortunately the recommended approach to fix this issue doesn't work on my machine. HL2 was running properly years ago on a device using Windows XP. A few days ago I started the game aborting with issue "Unable to load... FileSystem_stdio.dll". Sure, WIndows XP is outdated and so I re-installed the machine using Windows 7. Now I'm still facing the same issue.
(device is dated from 2004, Athlon XP 3000+)

I would appreciate any help on this, Thanks!

I have win 10. FileSystem_Stdio.dll is in the Half Life 2\bin folder. is the file there?
run steam as admin - maybe game cant read it.

Yes, the dll "FileSystem_Stdio.dll" is available in Half-Life 2\bin directory.
Running steam and/or HL2 as Admin was not successful. I got the same error.

try deleting the FileSystem_Stdio.dll file then verify game cache. steam should download and install that file with the correct permissions.

...and so we are at "recommended approach" as described above again, which doesn't work on my machine. In the last days I spent some time with Google and in various community discussions...I'm not the only one facing this issue and I wasn't able to reveal any root cause for this error. Thanks anyway!

so we both have the same game and the same FileSystem_Stdio.dll. mine works. yours doesnt. your permissions/antivirus are all okay. running as admin still doesnt work. maybe another program is interfering. try clean boot or safe mode - see if game works.

your profile says you played for over 8 hours. so game worked and now it doesnt. mods?

maybe the machine (architecture/cpu) or whatever is too old and obsolete in the meantime for latest game-dlls. I won't spend more time on this device and will try another one.

steam playing duration declaration is based on the fact that game was running properly years ago, as described above. Besides to this, steam adds playtime for games although game launch is aborted.

If anybody is facing an issue like this, I think I've found the root cause: The magical word is "Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2)"

I put an Athlon 64 CPU, supporting SSE2, to my system and everything works fine again.
